I have been looking for a third rifle to round off my collection of 470 ne and a 9.3X62.
I have found one pre 64, 1950 model in 30-06 with everything original and an old 2.5 x Weaver scope. The stock is all original, the rifling excellent (nice and shiny) blueing very nice no rust that I could visually see.
Overall in very good condition
Price being asked is $1600 ..
what do you guys recommend?

Buy it and enjoy. That is the same rifle I have. By serial number mine is either 1950 or 1951. It is heavy to carry and the metal butt plate is not snuggly but I have done well with grandpas old ‘06. I handload and it loves 165 gr lead tipped bullets. I would ditch the weaver and put a great scope on it, but I guess it depends on your intended purpose. The trigger on mine was heavy but a gunsmith fixed that for me. -enjoy!

Yes, thats the one, which Leupold scope have you put on it?

Not really, I value your opinion just want to own a quality gun.
Yes sir it is, and they are not coming down in price.... As long as it does not have any extra holes tapped in the receiver and is original, it will always hold its value. Regardless, even for some reason the "collector" value is gone, these rifles can still be superb shooters with lots of nostalgia in the field.

Tomcat you cannot buy a finer rifle on the planet! There is a reason why the call them “The Riflemans Rifle”!
That’s how good they are!
Great find! If you decide against buying it I would kindly ask you to let this community know where it’s for sale as I know we will snatch it up!
If you have any questions you can message me and I can give you the history on the 1950 Winchester M-70’s as I have two of them…

Can’t go wrong. Killed my first deer with a 1951 version of that rifle that belonged to my great grandfather. It still wears the weaver scope he put on it. I keep getting tempted to put new optics on it but it just looks right the way it is.

Mine came with an old red field and the crosshairs broke the first season I used it. It now wears a leupold vx-3L 4-12. The crescent on the bottom of the front bell lets it sit low over the barrel. It’s a right handed rifle but I shoot left handed so the low scope lets me get more cheek down on the stock. My dad and grandpa didn’t apparently understand left handed/right hand. You just shot what you got!

Love my old 1953 M70 featherweight .270win , my Grail rifle is a 1963 .300wm
But I think if a good.300h&h or 30-06 shows up I would bite
Putting a new Burris 4x14x44 on it after the deer season , she wears a 3x9 Burris now
