Exactly.
With MAID (as it's called in Canada - Medical Assistance in Dying), governments and other health care providers are let off the hook in terms of treatments, pain relief research and treatment, hospice care, and the list goes on. If you have a terminal diagnosis (or not, see this thread above), you are encouraged to simply off yourself, and save the government (or your family, in other places) the money of treating you properly.
And so far as it having no impact on anyone other than those undergoing it, you only have to look at the cases where parents, children, relatives, and friends have been left wondering what could or should have been done to avert this unnatural ending of lives. The media is full of these cases.
When it was first proposed to extend the eligibility for MAID to those who are mentally ill, the then Liberal Minister of Health for Canada, in responding to a question about how they would prevent people who only want to commit suicide from accessing MAID, the Minister responded that safeguards would be put in place so that suicidal people would be ineligible. So - in other words - anyone who wants to die, will not be allowed to die. Does this mean that only those who don't want to die will be put to death? Move over, George Orwell.
Assisted suicide has become one of the top 5 leading causes of death in Canada, with over 15,000 people "helped" in this way in 2025, saving our government run health care system billions of dollars. For those who don't think that money matters . . . think again. Again, the media regularly reports cases of people being encouraged to consider MAID rather than seek treatment for what ails them.
For those who are in favour, be careful what you wish for.
