Keep praying for the families who lost loved ones in Kerrville, San Antonio, and even Round Rock, Tx. the death total is above 30 with 20 or more still missing. Heartbreaking that many were children at church camp. The beautiful Frio River became a death trap, and without much warning.
Unfortunately, Hunt, Texas is having another heavy rain as I type this. Rainfall rate is 2" per hour, and the storm is moving slowly.

59 confirmed dead so far (21 children), lot's still missing.

We were hammered pretty good along the San Gabriel as well, though nothing like Hill Country. Thankfully, we had six-hours of warning. The San Gabriel crested right at thirty feet. Shipped Nancy and two dogs to our son's house and Rigby and I rode it out. All the outbuildings survived and the house is dry, but the fencing and entrance way were destroyed. I would guess six weeks of clean-up once the ground dries. Not complaining in the least. We are simply praying for those folks to the west of us.

Taken at around crest. The river is almost a quarter mile out from the photo and has 15 to 20ft bluffs along our property line. Thought we might have one of those horizonless pools for a while.View attachment 697336

Sorry you are having to go through this but glad everyone is safe.

I worked for a hard ass Executive Officer early. We would organize, clean, inspect gear. He would ask if we were ready. Of course we would say “yes sir of course we are ready. He response every time was. “Do it again”.

I learned many immensely important lessons Taught by the ocean. (Pertains to fresh water also)

His words “ Water always wins”

Nothing defeats water. Liquid, gas or solid. The power of water is not to be dismissed.

Redleg, I looked for a post from you before I went to church, but didn't see anything. After church I called Action Bob who told me that he'd already spoken with you. He told me about the gate and entrance area. Glad to see and hear that damage is mostly superficial and can be easily repaired once the water recedes and the ground dries up. Hopefully your Pecan trees will survive as well.

Wishing minor repairs and that all are safe for @Red Leg and all his neighbors.

Major damage and minor damage look the same when it’s happening. Let’s hope the second glance the next day give new hope.

Glad to hear that everyone in your household is OK, and that the cleanup is manageable. On a side note, I'm also personally glad to see that the muddy water didn't flood into your pool. I've had my yard overflow into my pool before during torrential rain, and it can be a real chore to clean up.

Is that region prone to flash flooding ?
About every few decades a big one comes along. I remember in the nineties a disaster with a bus load of teen church campers washed off the road. One picture from the time showed a cypress tree with a trunk in excess of 6 ft. diameter stranded atop one of the little bridges that was described as having been "hung up" somewhere upstream by another flood decades earlier, and just now deposited where the picture was taken. Flooding yes. Huge floods like today--less frequently.

Fortunately getting about a half inch this evening which is doing a good job of washing away a lot of the mud coating everything.

Common, but only once in a great while for one this severe. Late 70s as I recall for one in this category. I remember driving to the deer lease and the huge cottonwood trees all pushed over near Kerrville. Nothing as deadly as this one, although population growth is probably responsible for the difference.

The rancher we leased from - 13 bump gates out of Rock Springs - advised us to spend the night in a vehicle rather than cross a fast runoff trying to get to the ranch.

Glad to hear you’re safe @Red Leg.

Trump hints at NATO sending Patriot batteries and even troops into Ukraine. When asked about US troops. He said maybe, we will see.

The Troops hint is most likely meant to brush Putin back off the plate. To slow the attacks on Ukraine
It is most likely to placate Ukraine supporters. While he has been talking about helping Ukraine in reality we have been cutting off aid that was already authorized by Congress.

Weird, after all these years of talking about it, and demanding it to be released, there is no Epstein list.

Nothing to see here folks, oh look over there, WMD’s!

The swamp still looks plenty boggy to me. :E Shrug:

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
