Can anyone here explain to me the status of the HB1 House-passed budget bill? It now goes to the Senate or a committee and then for Senate reconciliation?

1.) What are the odds the line that reduces suppressors to $0 tax stays?
2.) What are the odds that SBRs and AOWs are also un-taxed, thus ending most of the NFA?

I've looked all over the gun rights sites and its just patting each other on the back for passing the house, yet its totally absent of next steps and what it takes to become law.
Yea. Just passed by the house on the 22nd so self congratulation is probably jumping to conclusions..

This seems like a really odd decision from Trump, and has the smell of a fish market at low tide. Not only were they convicted by a jury, but the conviction was upheld by an appeals court. What is more likely - that the justice system was weaponized against them, or that they are actual criminal grifters? They give off that "creepy AF" vibe, and my money is on the latter.

Considering the scumbags that Biden pardoned, Trump gets a few questionable freebie pardons

From what I’m gathering the republicans pushing back on HR 1 aren’t paying any attention to the NFA pieces… as, assuming they pass the bill (or some version of it) the current wording of the firearms parts should stand…

I refuse to count any chickens though… I gave up trusting politicians of any ilk a very long time ago..

I see whataboutism is alive and well in the Trumpland. If people vote out a corrupt government, it shouldn't enable those coming in to do the same just because the previous guys did it.

I'm sure it chap's your liberal hide, eh?

From what I've read of @Tanks on this forum, you might call him "classically liberal" but not a "liberal" (leftist). He's just not a Trumpophile.

I cannot remember the quote from Reagan, but wasn't it something like "if someone agrees with you 80% of the time, they are an ally"?

There are a lot of classical liberals that voted Republican for 40 years that didn't vote for Trump. There are a number of people that voted for Trump as the lesser of two evils but do not love Trump. All the aforementioned are friends and allies.

Some people around here just won't waste an opportunity to bitch & complain about Trump. The same folks who rarely ever said anything about Biden.

I am not a fan of the budget but then, this is politics. It has at least gotten out of the house. There is no way the senate will pass spending cuts with 60 votes. A simple majority may be a problem.

Reconciliation and recision are what is probably going to happen. If I remember correct, reconciliation deals with mandatory spending like social security. It is my understanding that discretionary spending will be recision. Get the senate to vote on the bill, then the president comes back and says we don’t need certain items. That’s the only way the doge cuts and things like the dept of education will be done away with. The recision must then pass both chambers by simple majority.

If that doesn’t work then we will be dealing with impoundments that Congress pushed hard for during the last part of Nixon’s term saying the president had to spend the funds. If we get that far and the president wants to cut items in the bill then it will become a scotus issue. Basically does the president have the right to not spend money budgeted by congress. From the founders to nixon the president always had that right. There is a reason the deficit has ballooned since nixon. The president had to spend the money.

It’s been a long time since I looked into this but this is how I remember the process works.

It would be great to get away from omnibus bills that are voted on an hour after being printed, that no one gets to read that are filled with fluff and special projects. I would much rather have 100 1-5 page bills each dealing with a single topic like the department of commerce but getting back to a simple idea like that would probably take a super majority in both plus a willing president.

There is a reason politicians are loathed and hated.

We live in strange times. I try to evaluate the person apart from the Trump voting pattern. I have a fairly pessimistic view of America's largesse and the excess of gen Y and Z. The way I see it, we're going to need all men of good conscience to rally in the next 10-30 years. I try not to pee down the leg of those I think are on sound footing that disagree with me on the non-essentials these days.

Just trying to breathe some camaraderie back into the thread. I wager less than one half of one percent of the people on this forum we'd consider "bad neighbors". If virtually anyone on this forum ran for local office I doubt any reader would vote against them. #puttingitallincontext

Considering that Hunter Biden is walking free, I'm glad Trump pardoned the unfairly treated Chrisley's.
I just love Whataboutism

If you want more camaraderie in the forum, you might want to preach that to the TDS crowd.

I'm trying to find more information on this. From what I read, the issue is the judge disallowed evidence and testimony that perhaps should have been allowed and would have created reasonable doubt. If anyone has details, I'd love to see them.

This is a real problem, and we've seen this before. As an example, the Trump trial in New York clearly had a biased judge, who should have recused himself, and there are instances where another judge may have ruled differently, creating a different outcome. For all the issues we have right now, to ignore problems within the judicial branch is not helpful.

That's a fair statement, but I'm also keeping in mind that an appeals court upheld the conviction as well. I don't have a dog in this hunt, but am a bit curious to know the full story.

I am sure anyone that does not have their nose in nether regions of Trump is a liberal in your view. For the record I have never voted for a Democrat, and voted for Trump 3 times (general elections) while holding my nose.

I also do not see how holding every elected official to the same standard is being a liberal. Are you suggesting that liberals have greater moral fibre than conservatives?

Something will pass. The country needs to function. The game clock, the debt ceiling extension, will run out sometime between August and October. The contest is whether a small group of fiscal conservatives in the House and Senate or the President - all in the same party - is more powerful.

Or maybe not calling anyone who disagrees with you a Marxist?
Any criticism of the great leader is a personal challenge that has to be addressed - ideally by name calling. That whole discussion and debate thing is so complicated. It must be a terrible burden.
