The sad truth is not many americans buy “american”. I looked through my household to see if I had any american products. My wife came up with a Kenwood kitchen machine and I could find some old boxes of .300 HH SuperX from Winchester. From there I had and old football cap from the 1980s saying “ Roll Tide” and some Disney Park T=shirts. But from here there was nothing. Back in the 1970s we had much more american made stuff. My dad drove Chryslers in the 60s and 70s untill the oilcrises came and it was sold some years later. Too expensive too fill I guess. I have a hard time figuring out what Trump wants to manufact in the US that the world will buy?. In the 1950s many things were made in the US but there was no China to compete with. Today everything is being outsourced was foreign countries even overhere and we will never make the things we used to make.

Businesses that learn to “play the game” tend to do very well in corrupt, bloated bureaucracies/governments. Naturally, they tend to defend such corrupt systems and will fight to keep or expand them.
Nice platitude. Give us a specific example and how that works.

I have vintage Zebco fishing reels that I cherish; the current Chinese made ones are an abomination.

I buy American whenever I can but otherwise I avoid Chinese made products if possible, especially outdoor gear.

Well. That didn't take long. Rather like watching a gambling addict play craps with my investment portfolio.

So he is shitting on zelensky again for simply saying the facts....and threatening putin with sanctions yet again, when he never applied any the last time he said he would....can see putin pissing himself that the Donald "isn't happy."....needs to get his act together ...but :E Shrug:

Heck, a few years ago I had a project in the UK. I needed 11 engineers over there for a year. I offered a 25% salary increase, trips back home every 3 months for a week, all expenses and use of a car to my employees. I sweetened the pot saying I'd also fly their family there as well.

ONE person took me up on it. Rest, I had to hire consultants to fill the slots. Our engineers are prima donnas; I see that daily in the younger generation especially.
I think we need to ask what motivates people to work. Why would be someone in sunny California be willing to move to cold and wet UK? The weather is terrible, the food is worse and while the Brits are mostly nice their guest are not so. I think we can put down motivation to work to two main types, the need to earn enough and then when you have earned enough, to get satisfaction. Satisfaction may include everything from wielding power over a lot of people, getting social status or just to design something beautiful. Both are very person dependent, and I do not think we can quantify them.

A Chinese or an Indian engineer will typically come from a less advantaged background than an American and our opportunities fewer. Our main need initially is to earn. Simply put if I am not willing to work 12+ hours a day there are others lined up to take up my place. Life is a competition for us, work and earnings first, enjoyment second. As a result, we work harder, longer and cheaper; and in some professions I think we tend to do better than Americans and Europeans just because we are willing to miss the family dinner to get some work done. However, I know some dollar millionaires here in India who do not need to work, but they do. Some to control a few thousand people, some just to teach the young ones. When it comes to it, I would actually say that the European and American IT consultants I have worked with are better problem solvers in general, but we get more of the mundane stuff done on the same days.

I remember coming across the concept of summer hours when I moved to US. Basically, every Friday after lunch the employees from my customer were gone. I negotiated this for my team also with the client, keeping a couple of folks on rotation in the office and releasing the rest for an early day off on Friday. Some of my folks declined this offer, worried about people taking them for slackers.

I would caution Trump that when you only stand for profit; then you stand for nothing

Your adversaries couldn’t give a twig for profit

They want power and control

Trump and his vice president strike me as checkers players at a chess tournament

Great at bullying 3rd world leaders and total pillocks like the grovelling Starmer

Not, though, up to the challenge that is confronting them

Does Trump have the ability to recognise when he is being patronised by Putin?

I hope so

Because he is !

I don't believe his hubris allows him to consider it to be a possibility he could be patronized or played. That requires a modicum of introspection.
