Curious what the rationale (or excuse) for removing sanctions on Syria is.. Would say reasoning but I’d be surprised if there was reason involved.. Meeting with a terrorist and give him legitimacy..

Lots of terrorists that the US (and the rest of the world) have later embraced...

Nelson Mandela would be a good example.. he remained on the US Terror Watch List until 2008.. 14 years after he was elected President in South Africa..

You do know that is a link to the WSJ right? You really think the WSJ is marxist? Or do you just have a group of derogatory words you like to type randomly when something you don't like gets posted?
You think the WSJ is some type of Media gospel? They are manipulative just like everyone else, and have their own agenda.
Obviously, that horrible derogatory word has triggered you....get over it!

With a 31% drop in Canadians crossing the boarder in automobiles and a 13.5% drop in air travel, states that do any amount of business through tourism must be down on revenue. Those figures are year over year comparisons and have been down similarly each of the last four months.

Has anyone in the u.s. noticed a marked decrease in tourists ? Tourism is big business here in the summer months but we won’t start to notice until the ferry starts for the season if the decrease is reciprocal.

Well wasn't exactly an angel....and his international acquaintances......some were pretty unsavoury to put it mildly

What seems to be accurate about the report is that the exorbitant tariffs on China were about to cause broad damage to US businesses - particularly smaller enterprises absolutely dependent on a Chinese supply chain and create a huge Covid-like store shelf calamity for the VOTING public. As in any cost scenario, that inconvenience would be most felt by working class Americans. Many of you seem to feel like you have far more expertise on the Chinese economy than me, but this feels more like some sort of self-inflicted mutual economic and political suicide pact to achieve the status quo and talks. I wonder if a nice invitation on Whitehouse letterhead might have been any less effective.

Second, I think anyone can now see that the revenue generating aspect of the tariff plan was never real. I am not sure whether Trump thought it was, but if he did, that is really worrisome. I think I would have been more comfortable having been lied to about it. My sense is that the only person with a real grip on what is actually happening is Scott Bessent. I pray Trump doesn't get frustrated with what are likely uncomfortable periodic chats with him.

Finally, it seems ever more apparent that there is zero intent to cut spending and draw down the national debt. The effect on debt of the Big Beautiful Bill seems to pretty much mirror Biden's two major bills in that respect. Even the folks over at CFP, RedState, and Breitbart seem to be getting concerned. Moreover, support for the agenda is getting wobbly on the Hill.

This was published in the Wall Street Journal today. Ron Johnson is not exactly a leftist democrat.

What I believe would benefit people like me is some sense of coherence emerging with all the late night blather from the president. I do not understand his intent, I do not understand his strategy, and certainly do not have blind faith in him.
Red Leg, with all due respect, you must have this wrong. I was told, very clearly, earlier in this thread that tariffs on China would not result in empty shelves, but that the vendor would pick up the tariff and keep sending the product.

I clearly learned from that post. Perhaps you missed it, which would explain your lack of economic knowledge.

Gents, I am not an international economics expert but... I know Trump's modus operandi. Throw a handful of crap against the wall and see what sticks. Trump recently placed over 100% tariffs on China. When China started to negotiate he lowered those tariffs to 10% + an additional 20% on some goods. This is temporary, much like a cease fire of a war. It gives time for negotiations.

Of course, the press is saying Trump blinked. No, I think he got what he wanted, for now.

Think about it like this, when facing a gang of adversaries, drop the biggest bad guy to get your point across to the rest of them. That's Trump in negotiating deals.

They are not remotely Marxist. A word you seem by.

How do you expect to be taken seriously when you call the WSJ Marxist?

I know it’s the internet but do you have no sense of personal integrity or credibility? Does the weight of your words mean nothing?

I think the key metric would be states that have a substantial number of Canadian tourists specifically… somewhere that Canadians are a noticable or significant % of the total number of tourists typically…

It would be hard to gauge otherwise..

For example, one of my daughters works for Disney in their corporate offices in Orlando…

It is very possible there are less Canadians in the parks right now..

But, what the impact of that would be, she wouldn’t know.. because they are overrun with international tourists in general right now… it’s the busiest time of the year for them.. the parks are running at max capacity daily whether Canadians are coming or not.. if a Canadian has chosen not to come, a Japanese or Chinese or Mexican or British tourist has taken their spot…

I’d guess an organization as big as Disney likely tracks where its large customer groups come from, and that they target marketing dollars accordingly… so someone inside Disney probably knows if the Canadian numbers are down..

But the point is, from what I understand, it isn’t making any difference even if the numbers are down.. because they’re still completely packed every day…

That’s my point..

Terrorist today..

Freedom Fighter and Friend tomorrow..

Governments and politics are fickle fuckers..

Split screen todays Trump visit and Biden visiting Saudi Arabia last year just before the election. Hat in hand asking the Crown Prince to help a brother out groveling to increase oil production. This after calling the Prince evil. Pathetic

Trumps speach in Riyadh today was right on the money. Trying to bring S.A. Into the Abraham Accords, getting 1 trillion in investment. The UAE was there and they are number 3 in the world of artificial intelligence. Bringing them into the fold is huge. China has been trying to sweet talk the UAE. Huge day for world peace today.

Biden got a fist bump and a polite wave good bye.

Lighten up Francis, or should I say lighten up Karen?

Read Karl Marx economic theory, and you might have a better understanding why I use the word marxist, often times in jest at certain things.
Some of you all are just too serious and uptight and looking to pounce on stupid shit over nothing.
Grow a pair, or STFU.

If Trump was re-elected the Kingdom would already be the Abraham Accords. They will be before the end of this term.
Not likely.

The Crown Prince (you know the chap who tortures and kills journalists) today said that they were not going near the Accord until Israel stops all military actions in Gaza and there is a clear path to Palestinian statehood agreed to.

Well, I almost got taken out by two cars with Ontario plates at the Buffalo Airport yesterday, and a cruise past the Galeria Mall also showed some Ontario plates.

Also saw a few at some of the local medical centers...

They should have given it to Pete before he died. Shoeless Joe has been dead a long time.

The US opposed Assad and al-Sharaa is the one in power now. If we want to have influence in the new Syria, it seems like a good idea to normalize relations. Post Assad, Syria is posed to be against Russia now and an attempt at a positive relationship seems to make sense.

Plus, he wears a suit! ;)
