Nope. If you make bank on a good haul, I would be happy for you.
It’s not likely to happen but i honestly appreciate the sentiment, we’re 2-3 degrees of water temperature away from much moving. It’s real a moot point anyway we make our years wages in December if we happen to catch a few weeks of warm water in the spring it’s gravy.

That used to be true.. but not any longer…

Viacheslav Kovalsky of Ukraine holds that record now… 3800 meters on a Russian during the current war…

The previous record was held by Canadian JTF2 sniper Dallas Alexander… 3500 meters… who now lives in the US (Nashville)… he doesn’t have a whole lot of good things to say about the Canadian military and what it’s become these days.. he cites wokeism, political correctness and other liberal policy changes as the motivation for him leaving the Canadian military.. he’s pursuing a career in country music these days…and appears to be making some headway…

Also key to note..he trained extensively with US SOF and Tier 1 units prior to making that shot.. as most JTF2 personnel do…

FWIW JTF2 is an excellent unit.. everyone I’ve worked with that spent time there were solid, professional, highly capable soldiers..

But they get a lot of support from their US and British (and Aussie and Kiwi) counterparts… with dwindling Canadian budgets I suspect JTF2 relies more on those relationships than ever before to remain mission ready and capable..

As another aside, the International Sniper Competition for 2025 just concluded a few weeks ago… 9 of the top 10 teams were US military…South Korea took 10th…the Netherlands took 12th…Sweden took 14th.. Ireland 16th.. Denmark 27th.. Brazil 28th…UK 31st.. Germany 34th…

Canada attended.. but didn’t place…which is a huge shame.. the Canadian SOF guys have historically done really well at that competition…

Don't worry @Tubby’s Canteen we'll start another war so you can regain the record.

That's a joke btw.

I was just reading a discussion on reddit about Canadians traveling abroad. The concensus was that lots of Canadians do indeed travel abroad because it's cheaper and just as time consuming as traveling within Canada. Also, most respondents said they have either never traveled outside their home province, or to maybe only one or two others. Makes sense.

"The fact that you cannot differentiate between serious policy issues and Trump's trolls is an intellectual deficit."

Because I possess the cognitive ability of rational thought I can look at Trump's frequent tirades and recognize those as behaviors exhibited by Kindergarteners - not adults - and also recognize that as the leader of the free world he should be more circumspect and not resort to trolling. His juvenile bullying rants come across to me as an intellectual deficit.

Oxfordcat , many here on the political thread have strong feelings, beliefs. You make some valid points. On your “what is a conservative” topic. I think people move in and out of different definitions and levels of liberal and conservative . For example people look at Teddy Roosevelt and think (staunch conservative) was actually turning into a social liberal. He had many liberal
Leaning ideas. Not left how we view the left now. But how I wish the Democrat party would return to.

Also
Many on AH are the Alpha in their respective local circles. So we tend to think our way is the correct path.

But, It’s not a good idea to argue with mdwest or RedLeg regarding world affairs. Someone may catch them on the back foot occasionally or off guard. But on average they are a wealth of knowledge and add a lot of value to these discussions.

Dick "Douchebag" Durbin, has asked the DOJ and FBI, to investigate the anonymous pizza deliveries that have shown up at Judges homes, as well as some of the Judges families.

You just can't make this stuff up

your going to have to explain why that’s a bad thing? I don’t know the political leanings of dick Durbin.

I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want that investigated? Someone is sending a message to judges that they know where they live and their families live. Those pizzas could have been envelopes of harmful chemicals.

I freely admit I could be miss reading this one and am seriously asking for an explanation, but wasn’t mailing anthrax a thing for awhile? Fentanyl is supposed to be readily available and highly dangerous even through skin contact.

I appreciate Tubby standing in the ring for his country. He’s repeatedly said he doesn’t agree with the Canadian policies or the politicians, but he’s still going to defend his country. I don’t agree with everything he says, but it’s a shame that these greasy politicians in Canada in the US. I have created a crack between our two tight knit countries.

I know the exact strategy Trump uses to start negotiations. It’s an age old psychological tool to immediately show who is running the negotiations and who is dominant, but those tactics should be used against somebody that is not bargaining in good faith. And definitely not on a leader that knows the same basic tactics .

I appreciate the kind words, someone’s got to wade in on Canadas behalf I’m not exactly sure why it seems to fall mostly to me. I pick up heavy things and put them down for a living and routinely butcher the English language.

The same Dick Durbin who never asked for investigations into the threats on Trumps SCOTUS appointees.

I grew up in Illinois. The fact that it has been controlled for this long by these slimeballs shows what can happen when you dumb down the major voting block enough.

On the aircraft shot down?

While I can see the usual exchange of artillery on unmanned observation posts as a throwback to the previous decades, the fact that civilians are being killed, and the accusations of strike aircraft seem to be an escalation?

Also - curious on your opinion. Who is the most reliable source in the region?

My default would be to BBC

As bad as I hate to admit it, when reporting on non gulf state Arab issues, I often find Al Jezerra to be the least biased and most detailed reporting of major news outlets..

You have to peel back any possible Qatar, Islam, or Gulf State conflict connectivity (for example I would fully expect a slight pro Pakistan slant when reporting on Pakistan-India issues)… but generally speaking I find them much more balanced than BBC, Sky, CBC, CNN, etc..

After reading Al J reporting I’ll usually then look at what regional outlets have to say about whatever the topic of the day is… and only after that start to consider Fox, CNN, BBC, etc perspectives (taking them all with a fairly large grain of salt)…

I also take a look at who specifically is doing the reporting… sadly there are few journalists left in the world that deliver all of the relevant information.. most have clear agendas.. as do the agencies they work for.. once I figure out what their bias is, I try to apply the appropriate filter…

Its true. But often on these forums with lots of americans present it ends up with a shoutingcontest. Like in these times if critizing Trump or “america” some get personal and ends up with a reaction rather than a respons. That clearly stats fairly quickly of a emotional deficit if one scratch the paint.

One of the great aspects of AH is the fact it is an international group willing to speak their mind. In this thread in particular, that disparate view of world affairs has been very educational for me. Perspective is everything in interpreting and gauging global issues. Hearing these varied, often conflicting, opinions on what all of us are seeing going on around the world has given me a better understanding of how others are being impacted.
Personally, I find the analysis of world events from those here with experience in very diversified arenas of professional fields, much more useful and informative than what I can get from any of the news sources and talking head groups out there. (It has also improved my use of the dictionary and thesaurus, lol). For those of you that English in not your first language and worry about butchering it, the posts that are the most abominable in language are typically from those who claim this to be their first, maybe only, language. Don't let that concern stop the dialogue.
This is all to say, Thanks! for the conversation.

Also recognizing that I can't be on the highest of horses commenting about decorum while having to habitually edit my posts:

My strong preference is to weigh in while on the computer.
But immediately following the election I'm just tuning in sporadically from Barbados on my phone, and it leaves much to be desired.

Sandy Lane....?...

Feeling somewhat superior over us inbred, Trump voting Americans? Okay, let’s review this passport issue…

A higher percentage of Canadians have passports than Americans. Now why oh why could that be? Maybe because there is nowhere to vacation in Canada, other than skiing and seeing polar bears!

Hmmm, while I like our non-superior brothers in Canada, most Canadians live within 100 miles of the U.S.A. border. I don’t think Canada has many tropical vacation locations. Oh, Canada has great skiing, hunting albeit with certain anti-gun restrictions, and wonderful farmlands and mountains. That stated, not many people vacation in Alberta, do they?

Americans can without leaving U.S. soil go to beach in Florida, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, Marianna Islands and maybe another location or two. We can also ski mountains, and enjoy countless acres of public (BLM) lands for hiking, mountain biking, hunting and shooting, and so on. Most of that public land isn’t under a foot of snow for half the year.

Americans can drive or fly state to state for a vacation and everyone speaks the same language. J We have subcultures that differ enough to make visiting fun! I believe I’ve traveled to every state in the USA and even though I’ve spent time in Europe, Asia, and Africa, I didn’t leave anything behind in Europe or Asia… Nice to visit but I can also visit other states and drive home.

Finally, the map below isn’t new but look at the size of our land compared to Europe. Yes, I know Canada is a larger land mass, but that includes your tundra, perma-frost, and areas that most people seldom venture. So, I don’t know how big the 100 mile strip is that borders the U.S.A. where 90% of Canadians live, but I bet it is no larger than the whole area of Texas!

I like my brother Canadians but the U.S.A. didn’t cause your problems. Your liberal voting, socialist leaning fellow Canadians did.
