Politics

In spite of the name of the party, the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Deutsche Nationalsozialistische Arbeiterpartei) definitely was not a socialist left movement. It represented an extreme right wing ideology focused on obedience to the will of a Fuhrer (Leader). The movement was classic fascism.
This is a good read on the topic...have read any number of papers on this subject from one view point or the other, most much longer, but this one is fairly short and concise. Agree or disagree, the author makes very valid points that socialism was at the heart of 1930's and 1940's German doctrine.

A lot of Americans I know don't actually know what's going on between the US and Canada right now, and just how seriously Canadians are taking this. So, against my better judgement, here's a timeline to explain why we're here, and why we're angry.
Nov 30th, 2018 - The United States, Canada and Mexico finalize a trade agreement. Trump personally negotiates the terms and signs the document, celebrating it as 'the greatest trade agreement in history". (This is important.)
Nov 29th, 2024 - In a face to face meeting, Trump threatens the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, that he will be imposing 25% tariffs and that if Canada wants to avoid that, it should join the US as a state.
Nov 30th, 2024 - Trump publicly calls our Prime Minister 'Governor Trudeau' and instructs his staff to only address him as Governor going forward. He again suggests Canada should join the USA.
Dec 3rd, 2024 - Trump remarks that he would split Canada into two states once annexed.
Dec 10th, 2024 - Trump posts that the majority of Canadians support annexation, despite public polling that only 13% of Canadians would even consider the idea.
Dec 18th, 2024 - Trump again falsely states that the majority of Canadians support annexation and that one of his lapdogs, Wayne Gretzky, should have a leadership role in that new scenario.
Jan 7th, 2025 - At a press conference, Trump says that he would use economic force to destroy the Canadian economy to annex it.
Jan 14, 2025 - Trump again claims that most Canadians want to be American, despite new polls showing less than 10% of us are open to the idea.
Jan 20th, 2025 - During his inaugural address, Trump says that the U.S. will 'expand its territory' during his second term.
Jan 23rd, 2025 - At the World Economic Forum, Trump says that Canada can avoid tariffs and economic collapse if it joins the US. He says this in front of representatives from most countries in the world.
Jan 24th, 2025 - Trump states publicly that Canada 'will' become a state
Jan 31st, 2025 - Trump announces a 25% tariff on all Canadian imports to begin the next day.
Feb 2nd, 2025 - Trump refers to Canada as its 'Cherished 51st state' and that it should join the US to avoid tariffs.
Feb 3rd, 2025 - A one month delay is agreed upon. Trump, in a conversation with Trudeau states that he doesn't think existing border treaties with Canada are valid, and need to be revised.
Feb 7th, 2025 - In a closed door meeting with his cabinet, Prime Minister Trudeau is recorded, without his knowledge, telling everyone that he believes very strongly that Trump is serious and that he stated his reason for annexation as Canadian resources.
Feb 9th, 2025 - In a Super Bowl pre-game interview, Trump says that he's serious about his threats, calling it a 'viable consideration for expanding US territory'
Feb 10th, 2025 - Trump announces an additional 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada to come into effect March 12th.
Feb 24th, 2025 - Trump publicly remarks that whoever signed the USMCA agreement is an idiot. He was the one that signed it.
Feb 27th, 2025 - Reports of American spy planes and reconnaissance aircraft flying over southern Alberta and Saskatchewan.
March 4th, 5th, and 6th 2025 - Tariffs come into effect. Canada retaliates with it's own tariffs. Tariffs are again postponed until April 1st after a huge market backlash.
March 4th, 2025 - In an address to a joint session of congress, Trump states that the US will own Greenland 'one way or the other'.
March 5th, 2025 - US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick told Canadian finance minister Dominic LeBlanc that Trump "had come to realize that the relationship between the United States and Canada was governed by a slew of agreements and treaties that were easy to abandon."
March 8th, 2025 - Canada's foreign minister warns European allies that their government considers Canada to be under existential threat.
March 9th, 2025 - Mark Carney, the new Canadian Prime Minister, in his inaugural address states that Trump is seeking to destroy Canada, and its way of life.

We have viewed the USA as our closest friend and ally for a century. We thought of you as brothers and sisters. We answered the call, again and again, for any support you needed from us. Most of Canadians visit the USA so much that we've seen more of the US than we have the rest of Canada.

American products have been taken off our shelves. Canadians are cancelling travel plans to the US.
This isn't a joke to us. We're not overreacting. We don't think he's just saying this shit to cause chaos or negotiate a deal. We wholeheartedly believe that our closest ally and friend is about to bring violence across our border, economically destroy us, and eliminate our way of life.

The main driver for Canada's creation in 1867 was SPECIFICALLY to not be part of America, and to end America's very public threats and plans to annex our territory.

We're angry. We're really, really fucking angry. Open your eyes to what's happening because we're tired of trying to make you understand why and asking you why it seems like none of you care.

you need to understand (and not make the mistake of believing otherwise) that the average American doesn't care that the average Canadian is "really fucking angry"... or has any interest at all that you're "tired of trying to make you understand why"...

just like you care about your country and your economy.. the typical working class American cares about his country and his economy.. and is convinced that Canada has taken advantage of American good will for decades..

whether that is truth of fiction really doesn't matter at all...

crying, bitching, moaning, etc.. or even being "really fucking angry" wont change a single thing.. if anything the behaviors of people like Ford and Trudeau just further fortify the average Americans beliefs...

So... either Canada can come to the table and negotiate... and mitigate some of the pending pain..

or it can continue to saber rattle and be "really fucking angry" and the American people will continue not to care...

they are fully prepared to feel a little pain themselves in the short term if that's what it takes to secure longer term relief.. and are 100% convinced that any pain they might feel will be felt 10 fold worse on the other side of the border..

until that's proven otherwise (it wont be.. economists both left and right 100% agree that Canada has far more to lose and will feel far more pain).. things wont change..

You can be "really fucking angry" at Trump and the MAGA movement.... or, you can choose to be "really fucking angry" that Canadian politicians haven't been able to figure out how to navigate these political waters.. or be really fucking angry at them both... it doesn't matter...

middle America is going to go to bed tonight not giving 1/3 of a damn about it..

So.. if you want some relief from your anger.. the best possible solution is to get the Doug Fords of Canada to stop acting like clowns, get to the table, and try to start working out the best deal they possibly can for Canada.. threats and intimidation tactics from Canada don't work.. and anger is something no one gives a shit about..

Apparently threats and intimidation tactics from Trump are highly effective against Canadians though.. you are after all really fucking angry about them...

Agreed, the Nazi's had all sorts of practices in socialism

Volkswagen car for every worker(promise never kept), Free vacation cruise ships for the working class that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it and all the other bait to get the working people to agree to hand over their freedoms in exchange for social equality; by means of taking from the wealthy(Jews) who were unjustly able to amass their fortunes by mean of a corrupt system........ Sound familiar?

Brown shirts were just the Antifa of the day and once they started asking about the wealth redistribution that was promised, then comes the "Night of the long knives" where the brown shirts were rounded up and unceremoniously executed.

The party was originally named the "German Workers Party" and subsequently renamed in 1920 to the...

"National Socialist German Workers’ Party"

Because we’re not hysterical?

Try and calm down. Maybe have a Canadiano or something. ;)

Frankly, I am surprised that any one from Alberta or Saskatchewan Would be “angry” at Trump. Where and who you should be angry at is Ontario and Quebec and Fidel Jr, who have been screwing over those two province for years.

I would suggest you watch a few American business channels and you will see what Trump really wants is an Economic Union and not a fifty first or fifty second state.

That the last thing Republicans want is two or four more democrat or socialist (I repeat myself) senators.

Amen to that!.....

Instead of bloviating about how angry you are with the American government, try focusing your "Really fucking angry" self at your own government.

I wish the best for the Canadian people, I really do, but the flamboyant drama from the north is NOT helping the Canadian people; and may I add that the only Americans that are supporting the drama are the same Americans doubling down on the decisions that cost them the last election in landslide fashion.

@wesheltonj Well said sir!

you have to admit... the whole canadiano thing is pretty funny...

for those unaware:

It’s particularly funny to me how it contrasts to longwalker’s dire description of the situation.

Coffee shops comically changing the name of a drink hardly seems consistent with a population preparing for an american invasion force. It reminds me of the “freedom fries” silliness on the early 2000s.

On the other hand, it’s interesting that after decades of the Canadian left eroding Canadian national identity, they’ve suddenly rediscovered their patriotism.

Man, with family on both sides of the border, why did the insults even have to start? The problems are illegal alien crossings and fentanyl trafficking into our country. If Trump hadn't made the first insults, I wonder where we would actually be in resolving these two matters?

Can you show me some data about the actual numbers of both crossing the northern border?

while I dont agree with Trump tactics... I think the answer to your question is shown in the Canadian response @coreydb ..

He knows its going to invoke emotion out of the Canadian leaders... who are then going to allow emotion to impact their actions and their response.. which is NEVER a good thing in negotiations..

He doesn't give a shit about their threats and their anger..

Which causes Canada to "blink" first.. because what everyone knows from day one is.. Canada has more to lose in this fight..

If Canada approaches the table methodically, logically, and analytically.. they will be much more effective at negotiating..

but when they are "really fucking angry" their response is disastrous.. .

The Canadians are giving Trump exactly what he wants..

This is how he has "negotiated" for 50+ years.. its not new..

There are insults by words and insults by actions.... and believe me Trudeau's actions and snarky comments are right up there with Trump.
Don't misunderstand my message; I'm 100% behind Trump. Why make something hard if it doesn't need to be? Rather, only when it must be.
Agreed, and again Trudeau loved to throw rocks while living in a glass castle.

Even if we did it would just make you "really fucking angry" and as I pointed out in previous posts the Canadian government doesn't see a problem with the border for the same reason they don't see a problem with trade.... they don't want to.

But here are some numbers.... 5x Canadians die of Fentanyl than gun deaths; and we all know how "really fucking angry" you are about American guns coming into Canada; but you fail to realize guns are coming into Canada through the same routes as the drugs are flowing south.

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
