Most likely this stems from Albertans feeling as though their votes are wasted and mostly they are. The route problem that needs to be addressed goes back to the electoral reform you and I discussed previously.

I've never had a problem with at any Canada Airport, but land crossings. I've land crossed in BC and Alberta in rental cars (hint Washington & Montana plates) and every time. I get where are you from question and I say Texas, I spend the next five minutes being drilled about if I guns with me.

Yes the liberals banned another 179 firearms variances or more accurately reclassified them as prohibited devices. The liberals have not actually banned any firearms they’ve reclassified them to prohibited and made it impossible to get a prohib license. The last prohib licenses were issued in I believe 1992 when the liberal government at the time banned any hand gun with a barrel shorter than roughly 4 1/4 inch’s (it’s actually in mm) there are exceptions to the no new prohib law known 12/7 variance. The holder of a 12/7 variance could inherit prohib. Firearms but not purchase any themselves but 12/7 variances are know longer worth the paper they are printed of as new laws make it illegal to transfer handguns anyway.

You are going to make our northern friends grumpy first thing in the morning. Alberta has 85% of all the oil, and something like 50 billion trees, which is crazy to think about.

Canada has lots of trees, no error, but...

SYP is ready for harvest after about 17 years or so. Lots colder up north, it can take most of that timber 50 or even 100 years to get mature enough to harvest.

Even furniture-grade timber like black walnut is ready for harvest after about 30 years in the US.

I found it interesting visiting with a couple in their 30's. Both Phd's in science fields, one a Fulbright scholar. Both highly intelligent and college professors. All either care about is peer review and who the peer's are and where it is published. If a paper is peer reviewed then it is established fact according to them. When asked about Galileo or Copernicus, the topic is brushed off. Somewhere along the way we have lost the scientific method with our young minds in the sciences.

A very good friend of mine is a Yale PhD, and currently a dean at a large university in Ohio.. he previously taught at the Naval Academy..

He'll tell you the #1 rule is "publish or die"..

if you want a career in academia, you get published.. and what peer reviewed journal, and who the peers are absolutely matters..

Im personally about 1/2 through a doctoral program myself (taking a VERY long path to completion.. between other time sucks in my life and my true hatred for academia its been a slow and painful process)..

My experience has been my dissertation panel (made up of 3x PhD's and a panel chair (also a PhD) could care less about the content of my dissertation.. At this point I've got 110+ pages of research completed, and Im about 99% convinced none of them have done anything more than a high level pass on any of the actual research.. they are FAR more focused on APA writing style, and finding comma splices than they are the validity of the research (which is one of the things that drives me absolutely nuts)..

I could likely completely make up all of the research.. if it were well documented and the correct processes were followed in generating the data, they'd never know... they are much more concerned with form over function..

While my doctoral program IS NOT in a hard science or engineering field (Im pursuing a doctorate in business), the research methodology is the same..

Needless to say, I question pretty much ALL research.. and seriously discount anyone that declares themselves a "scientist" if the title is all they have to offer..

I’ve been to Canada a few times in my life. Neither impressed nor unimpressed. I can take it or leave it. And come to think of it, never lost anything in Canada anyway… . But, after my last experience with the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) and Canada Air in the Vancouver Intl Airport a few years ago I have zero desire to visit Canada again. My family and I were very poorly treated, for no reason by agents of the CBSA and reps of Canada Air - every one a PRICK! Caused stress to all of us and cost no small amount of money. All for no reason other than an arbitrary expression for show of the general attitude of every one of those arrogant aholes if not, sadly, major portions of the population. Of all customs and border agents I’ve dealt with around the world including all the common, small time bribery specialists in various African countries. none have come close to the CBSA pricks to our north. The closest comparison I’ve run into are the similar bastards in China.

Depends on how vintage.

Anything before 1898 is antique and not technically a firearm under the Act.

More modern, I don't even think 577 NE hits 10k J.

The legislation (over 10k Joules or bore in excess of 20mm) is intended to pull anti-tank and anti-materiel rifles off the market. World War Two anti tank rifles like the PTRS-41 and the Lahti 39 were technically non-restricted firearms in Canada and it had been catching bad press since 9/11

Yes and the AirCanada employees are probably the laziest most worthless in the entire industry.

As someone who used to fly AC weekly, I would take them over a southern based United crew any day of the week.

As someone who used to fly AC weekly, I would take them over a southern based United crew any day of the week.

I know we all get frustrated at times with the airlines, but most of the time the crews across the industry are pretty good....yea, you get a peckerhead once in a while, but most are trying to be as helpful as they can be, even when some passengers are being peckerheads themselves. Three delayed flights going and coming this weekend from TX to NC and back on American, people frustrated, but the crews were very professional and helpful across the board.

Dad and his colleagues were all of that variety - most of them had PhDs in an ag-related field.

To a man, they all gardened - big gardens covering at least a quarter acre and often a half acre or more. They all fixed their own cars, raised their own barns, hunted, fished, split their own fire wood, etc.

Those guys have either all passed on, or like Dad and a good friend whose twin boys were my best friends growing up, well into their 80s and long-retired.

That whole crew earned their PhDs in the 1950s or 1960s, back when you had to show proficiency in both German and Latin. Couldn't get a doctorate without one or the other or both languages back then.
