What am I missing? Egg prices have skyrocketed since bird flu, they have slaughtered millions of laying hens. Why has chicken meat not gone up in a proportional rate? I can still get my 7pc dark original at KFC for $10, the toiletries needed afterwards not so much!

Laying hens are different than broilers. Different birds, different farms, different conditions. The flu has not had much of an impact on broilers yet. Layers have been devastated.

You are pointing to what has come to terrify me with respect to the future combat capability of our nation's armed forces. I do not know anyone in Trump's inner circle that has any meaningful experience in the application of combat power above a company or battalion organization.

I am as certain today of the truthfulness of this quote as I was when Fehrenbach first published it in "This kind of War" in 1963.

You may fly over a land forever; you may bomb it, atomize it, and wipe it clean of life - but if you desire to defend it, protect it,and keep it for civilization, you must do this on the ground, the way the Roman Legions did - by putting your soldiers in the mud.

There are different tools for accomplishing that mission but never ever a panacea, though they appear regularly among defense dilettantes.

The first operational Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) may be flying as a test aircraft by the end of this decade. A pair of these would fly with an F-35 and be directed by that aircraft to use their ordinance against ground targets from beyond air defense range of the F35. True air to air unmanned capability is much farther in the future.

Hence, there is no alternative to the F35 which uninformed critics like Elon Musk, who knows nothing about actual warfare, have chosen as their target de jour. I will simply note that the IDF rather effectively used its F-35 fleet to neutralize Iran's extensive air defense array quite recently.

Secondly, the president has shown interest in "one-way drones." I am just an old professional soldier, but perhaps someone who understands this administration can explain to me what that is. The US Navy, Air Force, and Army already operate a vast array of unmanned munition carriers. I will admit they don't have funny little plastic propellers or look like Ukraine's scaled down Piper Cubs. We call them cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, JDAMS, and a host of other standoff variants of great versatility and kinetic potential. US small unit attack drones like switchblade have been in use for several years. They supplement and enable the base firepower of formations, not replace it.

The tank was first declared obsolete following the Yom Kippur war when the first Russian wire guided missiles emerged on the battlefield. Yet, somehow the Abrams has dominated close combat across the Middle East for the last 45 years. Now we should get rid of it because the inferior Russian designs haven't been wholly successful under Russian command.

There is also the assumption that the military is mired in the past. This is usually the judgement of observers who have never served an hour in combat. Believe it or not all the services expend large sums on combat development. That includes new tactics, new approaches to mission accomplishment, and obviously new technologies. Could much of that be streamlined or made more responsive. Absolutely, and that should be something upon which Trump's prodigies could focus.

A defense corporation can perform in any contract environment the government desires. I'll tell you a little secret, it is the government that prefers cost plus contracts - particularly for weapons development. That model allows almost unlimited changes of scope by the government. But if DOD wants to build a autonomous robotic kangaroo with defensive lasers and a drone launcher through an iterative development process, GD will be delighted to do so. Show them the requirement and the contract.

I just pray there are enough sane senators in both parties to stop this madness in its tracks before truly generational damage is done.

.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Just saw this...

WOW That just exploded my brain. we can debate that for a month, but Im all in, been waiting for that since the John Birch Society was a force back in the late 60,s. now all the nay sayers ",we need our presence, we need our ,say , we need to vote." Nope thats why we have a state dept. A congress, a military. Does not mean we are Isolationist , ,rather means we dont prop up a communist organization that has been used to stifle freedom and impose their will on 3rd tier countries. UN troops, what have they accomplished? The left is going to howl like a pig caught by A hound. I guess we could down scale to a League of nations. UN is mostly a puppet for the one world ideaology and a money funnel to our enemies. another 18 billion saved.

I’ve raised both, not commercially but for personal use. I was just curious why it hasn’t made it into the meat chickens yet.
They are definitely different birds .

The only real thing we would accomplish by leaving the UN is giving up our permanent seat on the Security Council where we can control the organization as a whole from directly acting against our interests. Cut payments whatever, but by walking out we give either China or Russia or both the ability to organize the organization against our interests. I am sure Xi and Putin would love it, but someone will have to explain to me how that actually would be in our national interests.

I bought a whole turkey awhile back st Walmart for .25 cents a pound. Poultry meat is priced pretty low now because we're eating a lot of sick birds. When I was young I'd go to the sale barn and watch cattle sale. They would sell some old cancer eyed cow and the buyers from fast food restaurants would cobble them up.

Broiler operations are much less dense and spread out geographically. Laying operations are incredibly dense making it much easier for the virus to spread. I heard an interview with one farmer who had had to destroy six million laying hens in his operations. That’s incredible.

Personally, I can't wait to see some of these KGB (FBI) thugs getting their walking papers.
Show up to Mar a Lago in full tactical gear, automatic weapons, safe cutters, and disabling the security video cameras?
It was a show of force, intimidation, political weaponization, and nothing but deep state thuggery.
The FBI can go eff itself.
Something is sickening about a federal Law Agency that raids a former pres. home, (MAR-I-LAGO)
(sp) and plays patsy with a former vice pres. /senator who holds secret docs. that were literally stolen over the years. They all had a choice support the crimes , resign or whistle blow, some did all 3 most just tried to protect there career. I saw 2 FBI agents who whistle blow and were back stabb stripped of leave, and harassed, now maybe justice will be served ,and the left will howl i can hear it already.

I heard commercial farms keep laying hens 2 to 3 years . Broilers are raised fast could be a reason their not infected. I had people tell me that they wouldn't eat wild geese but I feel if it can fly it probably safe to eat.

@Iwaters, you may be onto something here. The meat bird’s I raised were ready in around 8 weeks if I remember correctly. We would keep layers until they died naturally or until they quit laying and then they became de- facto meat chicken.

Looking back what has the UN done for our position or freedom, It was the US army , marines ,navy air force that won or rather held the line in Korea. To me the UN is weak and freckless and more of a suedo gov. on steroids. Im always ready to learn. There is an old movie the LION AND THE WIND, that portrays the US in a very similar fashion as we are now, anyway its good entertainment.

Even shorter. I spent the day today going through broiler operations in Mississippi. The Tyson birds go to slaughter at forty days, incredible! I was impressed with the biocontrol procedures and again, the operations are far enough apart that transmission between houses would be difficult, and transmission between farms unlikely.

The 26000 Canadian veterans of the Korean conflict probably don’t think you did it alone.

That is somewhat wrong with respect to Korea, the UK alone suffered 5K casualties, but yes the US bore much of the brunt of the war. But that is irrelevant to the point I am trying to make. As a permanent member of the Security Council, we have veto over any UN action which would negatively affect our national interests or those of one of our allies (Israel is the most vulnerable). It would be foolish to give up that controlling position.

Absolutely correct, it is also far easier to handle sick birds in a meat production setup than in a egg production setup.

Quite a few truly great Americans who care more deeply for our nation than the majority of people I know. If any one here honestly believes the FBI is a swamp and all the Special Agents are working against America I question not only your judgement but motives for our nation.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
