The end of the day it doesn’t matter who’s to blame once the infrastructure is in place to ship oil to the coast it’s leaving on ships and then it’s on the open market. The U.S. currently buys Canadian oil well below market value because the market is saturated due to bottlenecks in the distribution network once the bottleneck is cleared the price will go up.

Calling Trudeau the governor of the fifty first state and referring to Canada as the fifty first state would be a good place to start. Throwing our country’s economy into turmoil in order to renegotiate a deal that he negotiated in the first place ahead of schedule is also a pretty good dig.

Apparently we should not bore folks with the facts. On a slightly lighter note, I am predicting that US exuberance is going to meet with the steel of Canadian hockey in the four nations championship game. Crosby and MacKinnon are going to be unstoppable. Reminiscent of Gretzky and Lemieux on the same line against the Russians. I hope that the US enjoyed their round robin victory. They’re about to get schooled. They looked like crap tonight in the loss to Sweden.

Hard to say the Canadians did there level best to blow a four goal lead to the fins and almost succeeded.

Good point. It will be an entertaining game for sure. We may want to suit up a couple of the big lads for those first few shifts.

I love you man, but you are way exercised. I was asking about the insults you were referring to because I thought maybe I missed something recently. Or maybe it was something in Canadian media I didn't see

Do you think maybe we could compromised and just take Alberta and Sask as the 51st state?

Ask yourself if you think Ukraine believed they had a deal when they gave up their nukes. We’re playing legal niceties with people’s lives. I for one think that we screwed them.

I’m aware of the gravity of the situation. I have “seen the elephant,” to use a term from a bygone era, and shed my blood on foreign soil in the process.

Ukrainian disarmament was—is—a tricky issue. After the wall came down, Chernobyl, etc., it was increasingly obvious that they were not going to be able to manage their stockpile of nukes and coupled with international pressure, were eager to be rid of them. There was just that matter of deterrence. Russia, the U.S., and UK gave assurances that any threat to Ukraine would be managed by the UN Security Council promptly. This is where it gets tricky.

1) Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and per the structure of that body, has veto power.
2) Clinton never got (or probably more accurately, “sought”) Senate approval for any defense treaty for Ukraine. I’ll skip scoring a cheap political joke about Clinton’s honesty but for all his faults he was a very astute president; he likely knew that coming out of the Cold War, there was little appetite for such a treaty. (I’ve also heard anecdotally from some of my contacts in a previous life who were in the U.S. Diplomatic Corps that there was some hangover at Foggy Bottom following the Falklands War. I haven’t researched it very thoroughly but I’ve heard there was some level of defense commitment to Argentina dating back to Pinochet or before that we turned a blind eye to in deference towards the British. I guess some of the careerists were trying to avoid a repeat of that diplomatic crisis.)

I don’t like coming off as unsympathetic but it is very obvious that this deal was a short term fix to appease the disarmament movement. Given the obvious position that Russia has on the security council and the fact that the American process for treaty ratification had been solidly in place for 200+ years at the time, whatever the Ukrainian government “thought” was naive, incorrect, etc etc. I can’t help but object to the notion that the U.S. has somehow “screwed” Ukraine, a country with whom we have no executed defense pact. Article 5 of the NATO treaty extends to NATO members; it does NOT extend to NATO members and all territories there adjacent.

If the President of the United States deems Ukraine to be a strategic ally on our NATO flank he needs to take his strategy and justification to the American people and make his case. Joe Biden did not have the political clout to unify the country around that argument six months after Kabul fell. To call that unfortunate for Ukraine would be a severe understatement. Three years later, Trump ran and won on a message of bringing the war to an end but the issue polled well behind domestic issues (economy, inflation, jobs, abortion, etc etc).

I truly hope Ukraine maintains their sovereignty.

That could be one answer another potential answer is Canada shutting off transmission of 75 million megawatts of power we export to the U.S. per day which if timed to coincide with a cold snap would probably put us in a more favourable negotiating position. Canadians know the bargaining power of cold weather.

I think the last few years it has been pretty close to par on the import/export on electricity? A bunch of places the grinds are seamless between the countries so it hard to really tell.

This is turned upside down...the AfD people and lately your government try to market whats happening as a violation of free speech. What they call sharing ideas is breaking german law, ie german laws against hate speech.

So, let me spell it out for you, this is a matter of breaking german hate speech law. If you do not like german law, fine.. But its not violating free speech.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the German law on hate speech appears to me to be a violation of free speech. One might even say it's the definition of it. And I think that's the point.

I think you underestimate how insulting Trump’s comments are to Canadians!

But we’ll have fun in the championship game regardless. One thing to remember about Canadians, we’ll drop the gloves and beat the shit out of you on the ice, and then buy you a beer after the game. Cheers, eh?!

Yup what teeth don’t get spit out on the ice inevitably get chipped on schooner caps

I know very little about hockey, but I have a good hockey story.

Some years ago I was working an election in Ohio and I was staying a hotel downtown near Nationwide Area. Some night I come back to the hotel and head down to the bar area, there were a bunch of guys in there drinking and pretty rowdy, so clearly I can't stay away. They had the carts from the dining room used to clear tables filled with ice and I think Molson beer. I had heard of Molson but really never saw someone drink one, so then they offered I said yes, but then asked why in the hell are they drinking Molson. They laugh and say they are the Senators, I still had no idea what the hell they were talking about, because I know a shit ton of Senators and didn't know any of them, then they had to explain it again, they were a hockey team from Ottawa. They loved that I had zero clue, I had no idea Columbus even had a team and I couldn't name a single person to ever even play for the Senators.

We drank a shit ton of beer and then went out doing what you would expect, great fun.

So for those of you who feel it’s great to treat our most loyal ally, Canada, with disdain and derision, I would encourage you to start paying attention to a gentleman by the name of Poilievre. Canada won’t always be led by an inept fool like Trudeau. The US is in dire need of Canadian resources. Trump would do well to pay attention or he may well see these resources and alliances going elsewhere.
Trudeau was voted in, so was Stamer, so the Canadians and the British en bulk are complicit. Yes the resources of Canada and the 'Special Relationship' of the British are valuable to the US, but there is a bag of damaging negatives that come with it too. So how do you change a national perception and position to be in your favour? Debate? That is a joke. You let them feel the price of their actions and hopefully that will alter their actions.
The global default is chaos, it is easy, it happens naturally. Sensibility, however, is shaped and consumes energy to bring it about and to hold it. How long must one wait for sensibilities to come into play? Not too long I would argue, look at what a very short four years under Biden's blue haired back 'its' nearly pulled off. In this age of instant communications the world can go pear shaped at lightning speed.

75million MWh of electrical power per day? Or you mean general energy, including gas and oil?

As a reference, in electricity, 75TWh would be about the yearly consumption of electricity of Belgium, each day… seems high

I googled it before posting that comment I’ll have to check the website and get back to you. It could well be general energy. The jist of what I was getting at remains the same. In a world where the u.s. annexed two oil laden provinces to be there there 51 state it would not be inconceivable to shut the electrical grid off to them which if aligned with a major weather event would make for some awfully cold people. People freezing would probably give them a little greater appreciation for there neighbours to the north and might just open the eyes of the current government to how co dependent the two countries are on one another.

I can't imagine why people are going right.

Back where am from we in the hotel business and my brother was talking to someone who managed a chain hotel on the mainland ie England...he told my brother that the company had done a contract to house the illegals ....he said the government in the contract has to restore the hotel to its original condition at the end of the contract...so they don't do any cleaning or maintenance...provide same food day in day out , and are supplied with cell phones and laptops to provide each illegal.....he said the hotel chain is making big money for basically doing nothing....

Bye bye UK.

It is definitely unfortunate that we are squabbling with our long time friends to the north.
Hopefully this is resolved soon. The 51st state joke is offensive and should stop.

The US needs Canada’s products and we want Canadian products. Wood, crude oil etc.

The unfortunate reality is that Canada has some high tariffs on our products. But worse. The Canadian government is allowing China and others to skirt our tariffs on them by dropping it in Canada first then sending over our border.

Your Prime Minister is allowing our foe to bypass our peaceful means of trade enforcement.

Also the illegal border crossings with fentanyl.

Canadian defense spending is Very low. Canada seems to prefer to spend tax money on very liberal government programs. Which is your nations right to do.

The US is broke. We can no longer pay for defending the entire planet. Canada thinks they are free because everyone likes them. Canada is free because of who your neighbor to the south is.

Canada cozying up with the crocodile (China) hoping it eats them last. is not a long term relationship.

We need each other. But we also need Canada
to help us, help them.

Stop allowing China to bypass our trade tariffs and stop aiding with drugs and terrorists coming across our border.

But most importantly, let’s not let these greasy politicians ruin our citizens attachment to each other.

I have posted before, most Canadians are sick of Trudeau, and he knew it, that is why he quit. He has always been out matched on the world stage, and comes across as a WEF puppet. He is a China lover as his father was the head of Cuba for many years. Most Canadians are sick of the woke, socialist and rights trampling policies.
I told my wife that Don Trump would win in 2016 but she didn’t believe me. I said he was saying things that resonated with most people, but if you said something out loud you were labeled a racist or some phob or another. Canadians are also at that point now I feel. Please give us a little time to get an election as we haven’t had one in a long time. We haven’t had a strong Conservative leader for years, until now, and God willing will be the next Prime Minister.
Please give us a chance to right the ship. If we fail at the next election, then send HELP, or allow me to be a permanent resident, as I really love Arizona!
Again thank you, from a concerned neighbour.
Boyd

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
