Not a word in that amendment is being "changed or deleted." It is simply being reinterpreted by a new administration. I frankly think the new interpretation reflects the actual intent of that amendment to address the status of slaves and repudiate Dred Scott rather than its current expansive interpretation to be universally extended to anyone born in the US. This interpretation will indeed be challenged, and I am sure it will wind its way to an eventual SCOTUS decision. Based on the actual history of the amendment, I suspect the administration actually will prevail.Ttrying to meddle with 14th amendment sets a dangerous precedence. Somebody else might try to question the word militia in the second amendment in the future. Amendments should only be changed or deleted lawfully in the congress regardless of their content.
This is a slippery slope.
I personally strongly support the reinterpretation. It would also align the US with virtually every other nation on the planet.
With respect to the second, that restrictive reinterpretation not only can, but likely will occur whenever the Supreme Court again has a liberal majority.
This is the WH statement that was released along with the Presidential Order.
