106 years ago today, this telegram was sent by the 5th Tank Brigade to the 8th Tank Battalion - notifying them of the end of hostilities.
The guns fell silent, and 4 years of war were over. [1918]

I could quibble about Homeland Security, but I an stunned by his pick for SECDEF. Hegseth is a Princeton Grad which I guess means he is smart, a Fox talking head, and a major in the reserves with I believe two combat deployments. I am sure he is loyal to Trump and a genuinely nice guy, but what would give anyone the confidence that he is the best choice to run the largest military industrial conglomerate on the planet? With the exception of Noem, I had been genuinely impressed - but this reeks of farce. I may be wrong, but I would guess @WAB would no more turn his business over to him for a month than I would my old business unit. What is worse, who other than absolute partisans, will take this seriously?

Agreed, highly disappointing and concerning. Trumps personnel picks will make him or break him in this role.

Respectfully he knows literally NOTHING about executive leadership of the Department of Defense, and based on his bio, he knows nothing about executive leadership of any other major enterprise. Pulling the plug on the DEI effort would be important, and I trust he gets that done quickly. It will be the easiest thing with which he will face. I pray he is indeed a child prodigy.
Leadership starts with integrity. You know that as well or better than anyone.

DEI being a monstrous lie, those who support and promote it either lack integrity or are delusional. I'd guess both Trump and Hegseth both consider that the gravest threat our military faces.

FWIW, I agree with you that Hegseth is almost certainly not long enough in the tooth for this role. It's hard to fault Trump for selecting complete outsiders, though. He was subverted last time by insiders, military and civilian.

I don't pay a lot of attention to the news. Has Trump decided to use Flynn for anything? That's who I'd have expected him to pick for SECDEF.

I have a feeling this goes with the belief that if anyone has experience in DC, including the Pentagon, then they are part of the “swamp”. I think, this time around, loyalty Trumps any other qualifications. There won’t be anyone around Trump to say “hey, maybe this isn’t the best idea or best way to do this”.

I thought you were joking. For Pete's sake, he should decline. For America's sake, he should not be confirmed.
I agree. I like the guy but really?? I was watching Fox at the gym earlier and they showed his “experience”. Nonexistent.. To be clear I highly respect him for his service to our country but SECDEF?? Come on

That's the problem. The whole military is missing their recruiting goals due to all the woke bullshit. According to what he said on the Shawn Ryan podcast, his priority would be getting rid of the things causing recruiting to be down.
Point of fact my friend @sgt_zim , my Marine Corps continues to meet its recruiting goals.

Sergeant Major Ruiz, the 20th Sergeant Mojor of the Marine Corps explains why young men and women desire to become Marines;

For those with limited Internet bandwidth, SgtMaj Ruiz starts by stating, "It is irrational to be a Marine". Truer words were never spoken!
He contines on... "warfighting. That's who we are. That's why we exist."

I will offer a little secret. Had Harris been elected last week, nothing meaningful at all in that assessment would have changed in the least.

Maybe not for you and some others on here who are more fortunate than the millions of middle-class and poor Americans that would have been profoundly affected....

Good for you that you are in a position where you are shielded (or should I say sheltered) from what millions of others must endure when bad economic and domestic policies are enacted... Some of you do not live paycheck to paycheck making a monthly decision whether to buy groceries or pay the utility bill... Some of you now longer have kids in school being indoctrinated with woke bullshit...

I would also venture to say that your perceived security from the installation of the Harris/Walz Administration would have had serious impacts on both your financial and physical security... Do you seriously believe that the crime perpetuated and encouraged by these woke ideologies don't affect healthy, financially comfortable folks as well? I wonder if your perspective would change when your tax structure changed, and you were punished for your success while others were rewarded for merely being a certain gender, race, or just plain lazy... After all, a little harmless wealth redistribution never hurt anybody who could afford it right? LOL...

US oil and natural gas production has been at or near record levels for the past few years. There's not much capacity to allow for much more upside. Biden did kill some major pipeline projects and LNG exports. Righting these wrongs will help, but they will take time. It is much more complex than simply yelling, "Drill baby drill!"

I feel we need to build some state of the art refineries.

Is it accurate that we have not built a refinery since the 70’s? That seems hard to believe.

I do know that a lot of wells in the gulf have been capped and taken down, a lot of the rigs we used to fish around no longer exist.

I just wrote an email to both of my US Senators, John Kennedy and Bill Cassidy, urging them to not confirm Pete Hegseth as SOD. The Republican controlled Senate can do both the President and our country a favor by insisting a more qualified person is nominated. The Senate should not just rubber stamp everything that Trump sends their way.

I urge others to write their Senators too.

I'm 375 Ruger Fan and I approved this message. :)

So now we are going to offer a personal insult rather than offer an alternative argument or informed experience? Great way to debate the issue. Assuming that is directed at me, I would never have coveted job. I frankly never would have considered myself qualified. Then again, I wasn't a Princeton graduate or talking head on a cable network. Though I was a major at one time.
Not an insult, it was a question….. if you had read my earlier post you would note that if it was my decision I would select you for the position………..,, I think you are more than qualified.

If hegseth’s primary purpose is rooting out DEI, and Trump likes him because he thinks hegseth will be loyal, the better position for hegseth would have been deputy SECDEF… he could focus on the DEI issue while the SECDEF ran the agency… and gain some experience in how to manage large organizations in the process.. if/when the SECDEF proved to be a problem for trump, hegseth would have been far better positioned to take over the role at that point…

I was an "Upstream guy" in the oil industry and refineries are part of the "Downstream" side of the business. I believe your comment is correct, there have been no new refineries built in the US in a very long time. The permitting process is the problem. Nobody wants a new refinery built in their backyard. So what ends up happening is existing refineries get rebuilt, updated, modernized, etc. Refining is all about being efficient. Chevron's two refineries in California are both over 100 years old. Richmond, in the Bay Area, was the first and El Segundo, south of LA, was the second one. El Segundo actually means , "The Second," and the name was selected by the wife of the CEO. So the town of El Segundo, CA actually took it's name from the refinery.

Regarding wells offshore in the GOM, reservoir deplete and wells quit producing. There is a break even point when the production doesn't cover the expense. Wells get plugged and platforms (not rigs!!!) get removed. Many of the platforms are cut up and placed on the ocean floor to create artificial reefs. Fisherman love them!

Homan sounds pretty serious. I hope he is, and means what he says.

Democrat's are sweating the loss of potential voters. The whole ploy is to let them all in, give them amnesty, and a quick path to citizenship.
Democrats cant win elections without the minority vote
