As a German it is always funny to read the Hollywood versions of WW1 and WW2. To the US-guys: please remove your occupation troups from our County and finish WW2 with a Peace contract. Trump was on the right way to do so. Thank you.

As an American, it's always funny to read how the defeated country attempts to justify and rationalize their defeat... It was never Trump's intention to pull US troops from Germany. It was threat to leverage your government to step up and pay their fair share for NATO. In 1945, US troop presence in Germany was to check Russian aggression in western Europe. It has since evolved into a strategic presence to quell Russian aggression in the region as well as the maintenance of our international defense and economic interests. We continue to exercise that right because WE WON the war...! You seem to confuse "occupation" with the concept of defeat and unconditional surrender..

Not too many nations throughout world history have defeated an enemy and gave them the luxury of getting their country back.. Germany, Japan, and Italy should be kissing the USA's ass for perpetuity.

Be honest, your troops are not protectors. The protection of Germany is part of a Hollywood view (the other part ist the written history: USA covers the russian war crimes und Russia covers the US war crimes ) .

As stated above, the main US objective is not your protection. You still enjoy that protection nonetheless whether you choose to acknowledge it or not... Our interests are for our own defense and economic interests in the region as is our right as the victor of war.

If anybody celebrates that victory over Germany, that is ridicolous (best seen every year 9th of may in Moscow).They celebrate that 10-12 russian soldiers have killed 1 german. That is an neutral view, isn't it ?

So are you saying that the Soviet Union was not entitled to celebrate their defeat of Germany because they outnumbered Germany 10:1? Is this what you are saying? If so, maybe Germany should have considered those odds before rolling their Panzers into Russia during Operation Barbarossa... Just saying...

Now concerning NATO, I would agree that this vehicle, for the purpose of being a front against Russia, has outlived its purpose a bit. I do not longer see Russia as the main threat. I would look a bit more eastward for the real threat... I see Russia rather as a big old bear in his cave next door, best left alone and not messed with its own private affairs. Communist they are definitely no longer, rather an extreme form of predatory capitalism is now in vogue there. In fact, in my mind US+EU should rather come closer in cooperation to Russia than having a bigger wedge between them.

This discussion of media generated historical viewpoints regarding WWII reminds me of a friend in high school. His dad was employed by the US state dept and was stationed in Japan following the end of WWII. My friend was born in japan and resided there until his family moved to the US in the mid-60s at which time he was in the 10th grade. From the movies he saw while growing up in Japan he thought Japan had won the war. It wasn't until he came to the US that he saw what is referred to above as the "Hollywood" version. Evidently there are those living in Germany that are subject to the same propaganda. Too bad people can't have enough self-confidence to seek an open display of evidence without picking and choosing to support a predetermined result.

You are quite correct @sgt_zim it was a rather poor choice of words on my part. I have quite a few Russian friends and the picture they paint of Russian (Moscow) society is one where only money matters. The more you have of it, the less rules apply to you. Where the rich will fully take advantage of less fortunate people and this is somewhat unwillingly accepted to be a fact of life.
