Having said that, these countries are back on their feet and still offloading their defense costs on the U.S. taxpayer and at the same time sticking it up OUR ass with TARIFFS on just about every manufactured goods TO PROTECT THEIR INDUSTRIES! Meanwhile, they have BETTER health care (among high income nations, we have the worst!) and that nice imported Mercedes, Volvo, BMW, Honda, Acura, ad nauseum we buy is subsidizing these countries defense, health care and other social "benefits".
I'm done.
@Foxi, It's all bargaining. Germany needs to pick up more of the tab for their defense. Threaten tariffs, the automakers put pressure on the government and your country will have to pay more. The tariffs will have an insignificant effect on American workers. German badged autos will still be made, sold and serviced here.

We shed blood on your soil twice. Forget the mistakes of the past and you are doomed to repeat them. Your nonchalant attitude towards your own defense is strikingly convenient! It reminds me of the attitudes prevailing in Europe after WWI. Then, it happened again. Pull your head out of the sand.Isn't that politicians' phrase, that we should spend more money on the military?
Against whom should we defend ourselves ?
Please tell me.
Putin needs our prosperity desperately , so that we can pay his gas bills.
Why are there, believe it or not, 35,000 US soldiers in Germany?
Nobody demands that from the Germans.
Cuio bono ?

unlike Morgenthau, who would have only produced a new Adolf.Actually, I think George Marshall was more of a blessing for war torn Europe.
"We shed blood on your soil twice. "
You didn't fight for us but against us and that 2x,
or am I mistaken?

US President Wilson was a totally incompetent president, who played a large part in Europe's insecurity, an educated fool, who had no idea of Europe's internal conditions.
Fortunately the world had inWW 2 Roosevelt, almost to the end.
This man was a blessing.
Yes my neighbor had a BMW but got rid of it as it was always in the repair shop.@Foxi, Americans aren't buying German cars. The majority, close to 60%, are leasing them because of the deals they offer and the cachet they represent to others that give a shit what someone drives. My sister owned a Mercedes and it was a piece of junk, in the shop more than on the road. She now has a Cadillac. For my two cents, the best car out there is a Honda. YMMV.
Are you saying that you are on the side of the Nazis? Obviously we fought against Germany under Nazi control.
Yes, Wilson was inept and the Treaty of Versailles was a joke. However, blaming him for WWII is a convenient way to white wash Germany’s primary role.
The USA was left with an isolationist viewpoint after WWI so FDR didn’t officially get the USA fully into WWII until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He was almost too late.
Since then the USA has kept troops around the world to prevent WWIII and all we want is for you to pay your fair share. Acting like Russia is not a threat to Germany is naive and very convenient for your budget is it not?
just for another perspective...
JERUSALEM – In response to US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, the Palestinian National Authority has announced that it will recognize Texas as a state of Mexico since it was violently annexed by the United States in the 1840s.
“The territory north and east of the Rio Grande is very important to the Mexican people,” explained a PNA spokesperson. “Before American settlers showed up and implemented slavery, Mexico oversaw this land. Then, President Polk sent his armies to invade the rest of these Mexican territories, and force the country to give up California, New Mexico, most of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. We may soon recognize these states as part of Mexico too.”
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says that this is a new approach to Mexican-US relations, and hopes it will help ease the tension between the two countries over security and immigration.
“We understand that the Mexican state of Texas is a sacred place for many large-buckled Americans, but they can rest assured that a two-state solution or a wall was not feasible,” explained Abbas.
“Besides, most people in Texas speak Spanish.”
The Palestinian consulate in Mexico City will soon be moved to Houston to formally recognize the seized territory as part of Mexico.
At press time, President Trump hopes that his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will offer a new path for Middle East violence.
