Much truth to this post. However much perhaps due to the dismay and surprise of our allies, the USA does not have unlimited resources to jump into every skirmish that arises to pay the price for it. It has most certainly added to the debt this country, i.e., every current tax paying citizen and who knows how many future tax payers who will shoulder this burden.

I don't know where the breaking point is in regards to our debt. What I fear is we go over that cliff where we can't pay it or must drastically cut our budget in order to manage it, we won't be much of an ally the world can depend on, much less defend our own country.

Just how do you propose paying for the debt and our continued role of policeman to the world?

And no, I'm not an isolationist nor am I encouraging that. It's just that I can do math.

Musk is doing an excellent job of explaining the entire National debt and spending as well as taxing issues if you listen. He puts the relationship of government spending without bouncing a check (just print or borrow more money) into perspective and ties it in to inflation in a way that most can understand.

I think that the point of @Red Leg’s posted picture of Churchill was lost on many. The man, acknowledged by many as one of the greatest leaders of modern times, wore a frumpy one piece lounging ‘suit’ to meetings at the White House. Zelenskyy looked positively avant-garde by comparison.

I’m reasonably certain that the Prime Minister, for all his eccentricities, also had black tie in his baggage while visiting the White House House. Wardrobe is taking an outsized amount of attention, but if your son was going to a [much needed] job interview, you know everyone of us would rightly balk if he dressed like that.
If there is a Churchillian parallel to be made, it’s how to manage a difficult personality that is a necessary ally. Churchill describes this very tactfully in his excellent six volume autobiography of the Second World War, specifically with respect to DeGaulle. By this measure, Zelensky comes up very lacking.

NATO was created by the United States, with strong support by the UK, to further our national interest in Europe. Though threats change, or recently reemerge, it still serves that purpose. Our interests with respect to Europe are as great today as they were when the alliance was founded.

But we should shoulder the bulk of the bill you defend Europe while they bloat their Social programs? Canada as well... Democrats have long been quoting how far behind other countries we are on health care spending for example.

Well if Canada and Europe pay their fair share of defence perhaps they wouldn't be able to afford to spend as much either.

Actually, I guess he shouldn't have noted Vance was either a liar or horribly misinformed to his face. The ignorant or untruthful with great power are capable of all sorts of retaliation. That vertically challenged thing also gets repeated. Always a good line when there are no merits to a position I assume.

But getting Europe to pay more in no way changes our national interests - not an iota. The "big beautiful ocean" as my uniquely inarticulate president refers to the Atlantic, was a great barrier in the 19th century. Not so much today when our economy is absolutely dependent upon a worldwide and highly vulnerable web of trade access. That will not change no matter how much Trump reaches out to Putin or how much we slash our own power projection capabilities or alienate our allies. We can either shoulder whatever is necessary to protect our critical national interests voluntarily or we will do so when we are suddenly facing the gun muzzle of some other power.

Back to the front for a moment. One of these fascinating short videos demonstrating how the intelligent use of drones can inflict outsized damage on an adversary. The start of the video shows a UA observation drone detecting a Russian TOS-1A firing a thermobaric munition at a UA position. This is essentially a giant flame thrower. We do not have a counterpart.

In any case, rather than directing an FPV drone or artillery strike against the launcher, the observation drone follows the TOS back to its hide and munitions storage location. Typically, the Russians would have four to six such launchers forming a battery and operating from a central reload point. The observation drone then directs a quad to the location which drops what looks like a 10-20lb explosive on the roof of the hide/reload point. The results are rather spectacular and not a particularly tradeoff from the Russian's point of view.
