I am aware of all sorts of things - Germany's murderous persecution of the Jews, Russia's extermination of the Kulaks, French atrocities against the Huguenots, British brutal subjugation of Scotland and much of Ireland, the Spanish Inquisition, and our own genocide against aboriginal Americans. None of that has squat to do the sacrifice of Turkish troops who supported the American sponsored UN action in Korea.

Much of what cwpayton said was quite contemporary. I do not trust the turks any further than I could throw them, even less than I would trust Russia, as I believe they would love to reinstate the Ottoman Empire for which I have zero respect.

Quite the shock to see gentlemen of middle eastern descent, dressed in robes, outside Starbucks in Dallas calmly drinking coffee when it was 105 degrees out, not even breaking a sweat and seeming in their element.

I think that is pretty accurate, particularly if we look at if from a responsibility perspective. I have a great deal of confidence in Rubio and Kellogg (the latter of whom seems personally to have saved the pending economic joint venture fiasco from Trump's nonsensical rhetoric). If Trump will just use the leverage he has to obtain a just settlement, much of the damage caused by the Obama and Biden administrations can be mitigated. I wish I had more confidence that Trump was capable of that.

To his "credit" I suppose, Trump has created a new post-hostilities paradigm where an ally has to pay us reparations. Half a trillion is more than the Germans were forced agree in 2024 dollars as a defeated enemy in the Treaty of Versailles.

No one has seen the details yet, but an actual joint venture where both countries benefit economically would be a win win for both Ukraine and this country. I actually believe that is what is being created. But Trump's rhetoric, where we claim half of Ukraine's mineral resources, is an impossible concession domestically for any Ukrainian.

I may be wrong. I think all aid coming from the EU has been framed as a loan. Not free aid.

So if the EU is being reimbursed from frozen Russian assets. The US taxpayers should get reimbursed also.

I remember reading of France, Spain, the Dutch and English paying other countries for war support.

I remember reading of France, Spain, the Dutch and English paying other countries for war support.

I was under the impression that much/or all the US Aid was given in the form of lend lease meaning as a loan or a lease to be compensated repaid. I would guess on the same/or similar conditions as the EU aid that is to be repaid.

Like his decision to start relations with the russians again, musing about bringing them back to the G7-group aswell as the decision to make big cutbacks in the US military budget.

Then again it might be part of some elaborate plan to decieve the russians somehow

IT has been said recently that is Erdogan's goal to reestablish the old OTTOMAN empire. as has been said of Putin's desire to rebuild the old soviet Union.

A question that you probably know. It has been my understanding that most of Ukraine's minerals are located in the east which will probably end up under Russian control. Does Ukraine have many minerals without the east? If not then it seems the minerals as security for the American loans is more a symbolic gesture than a guarantee of finances already delivered.

Yep. My grandfather fought in that action, he was on Ataturk's staff. My great-grandfather on mom's side died there.

Regardless, it's a very hostile move and most of the minerals mentioned are currently in Russian controlled territory.

Or simply to assure it is taken away from Russia's gains. If Ukraine doesn't own it there's not much reason for Russia to want it.

So anonymous sources get reported, that gets repeated worldwide within a couple hours. Musk directly says that is not true, media will get around to updating the story in a few nevers....

America spent three years using every available asset in the intelligence and law enforcement community to prove this point. The answer is no. Read the Mueller Report.

Russia is the second or third largest military power in the world. Is there a reason to always live in a high state of tension with them or would some standard of normalized relations work better. Trump seems to think the past thirty years has gotten us no where and is open to and pushing an alternative position and line of thinking.

I will comment once more and let this go, MY jab at Turks was not to disparage their battle prowess in Korea, they fought on the right side and even though a lot of it was in retreat , that was inconsequential to their bravery. what point I made to your comment was that I do not like Turkey as a nation today or in the past and I stated a few of the reasons, I stand by that, I think they should kick Erdogan out of NATO, my opinion. So we agree they were brave. we don' agree on the remainder of my comments.
I relish you as a debate opponent ( even if your wrong), hope to see you show up next time.
