I wonder what would happen If with a magic wand we take all the illegal immigrants out of this country....

Im all for getting rid of all illegal immigration.. it is after all.. illegal...

we're very likely in agreement fundamentally on immigration though..

we (all nations) need controlled immigration.. to bring in certain skills/capabilities.. to keep the population growth patterns in line with certain economic growth patterns, etc..

as an example... whether we like it or not.. very, very few current US citizens want to work at a Purdue Farms chicken processing plant for any wage.. but.. US citizens sure do like having affordable chicken available at the grocery store... so.. Purdue has brought in Haitian workers by the thousands (legally) to do the work and to take the jobs that they simply cant find anyone else to do..

the system can be worked to everyones advantage.. if the US govt and enough companies care to actually work it the way it should be..

what is needed is some serious immigration reform..

we need to take serious, hard, action against anyone that would violate our laws and enter the country "illegally".. while at the same time, clean up the process (while overhauling it as well) that allows people to come here legally..

Unfortunately if you look at the projections we also are a dying country as far as population growth along with most Western countries.

Yet we have an immigrant opportunity with South Americans, primarily good, hard working people with Judeo-Christian morals, unlike Europe who are faced with immigration of people with very different fundamental beliefs.

I know it’s semantics for most folk to say “illegal”, however the great majority are actually “unlawful” and therein lies the problem. Unlawful, are breaking a civil statute, where illegal are breaking a criminal statute, and has a criminal penalty.

For this reason, there is up to a 150 year wait for lawful immigration of in-demand workers.

In order to create Americans, you have to deny foreigners ghettos and "communities" where they can create or sustain their native culture. High skill workers generally want to live in good areas (they can afford it) and quickly assimilate to Americanism. Low-skill and illegal workers on the other hand, cling to their former cultures and consume more resources than they provide in exchange.

Conclusion: Immigration isn't the problem, who is immigrating is the problem. The problem is punctuated by the fact that illegal immigration reduces the annual quota for legal immigration. The more illegals, the fewer immigrant cardiologists we get.

Setting this idiot aside, I think everyone should be seriously concerned about a pandemic that is everything COVID might have been. Virologists have been warning about a SARS or Flu related pandemic for decades. The fact that both the Trump and Biden administrations mishandled COVID has nothing to do about the next one except make a large slice of the American population skeptical of the CDC. Health "experts" like Marjorie Taylor Green have added to the collateral damage by making many more afraid of new vaccine technology, while the pharma industry itself has caused self-inflicted wounds by over hyping the efficacy of their products. When the 5%-10% death rate bug (much less a 25% economy killer) finally appears, we will be woefully unprepared.

My daughter works in the CDC and told us that her team is fully aware of the CDCs credibility problems with many in the American population. I'm no expert on the matter and probably you have more knowledge than I do.
We were the number one LNG exporter in the World till this years permit suspension on export facilities.
It's a very dumb decision however I don't see it lasting too long..

a couple of things to note..

the Cato Institute is a well established liberal think tank that has historically advocated very hard for liberal immigration policies... they are extremely biased..

and.. while it is absolutely a fact that the US population is aging out... the question is how much immigration balances that out?

I think most (to include those that lean left) would acknowledge that the volume of immigrants coming into the country at the moment FAR exceeds the rate by which the baby boomers (and others) are dying off.. and that while SOME unskilled/semi skilled immigrant labor coming into the country is likely very good for the economy.. that what were currently seeing is an overwhelming majority of immigrants that bring little to no job skills to the country... so.. we're not getting the things we actually need (qualified technicians and tradesmen)..

Cato is liberal in the same sense that Montesquieu, Bastiat, Adam Smith, and our founders were liberal.

That is 180º in opposition to the modern US idea of liberalism.
