Politics

My point is Cheney had the guts to stand up for her beliefs, which is what a lot of people thought that the Freedom Caucus people were doing the past week. Whether I agree with everything she did or not, she stuck to it.

I also think that you should consider a bigger tent for Republicans than just the ones that you agree 100% with all the time. I think your career (thanks for your service by the way) could have influenced your views of people and hardened you a bit and I get it. I understand your black and white analysis but politics are tricky and it’s hard to always vote on complex things without understanding there are trade-offs sometimes. Sometimes people have to pick between the lesser of two evils when there isn’t another clear cut choice presented and the details of a bill are mostly good but contain a couple things you don’t like. It’s pretty easy to sit back and criticize complex issues and be a Monday morning quarterback when you weren’t involved in the negotiations.
Liz Cheney was worth 7 million when first elected to congress in 2016. Financial disclosures from 2019 showed a jump to 44 million. Not a bad three years. God only knows how much corrupt influence she was able to peddle since then. She was there to cash in daddy’s favors and get rich. Now she leaves with a war chest of favors owed to her. She’s a swamp monster.

She was never even a Wyoming resident. She announced her campaign from her home’s front yard in Virginia. Where her and her husband call home. Where they have their drivers licenses. Where they have their businesses. Where they raised their children.

A microcosm of what’s wrong with American politics is Liz Cheney. Daddy bought her seat. Anyone else wanting to run in that primary was bought. Magical job offers, to good to be true, just happened to appear to potential challengers. The playing field was swept clear for her.

In a state like Wyoming, the primary is the election. We were saddled with an evil interloper who never represented anyone in Wyoming. As we only have one US representative, we had no representation in congress for six years. That’s the fairness of the republican establishment. They don’t care about the people. They don’t care about their voters. They don’t care about their state. They’re only there for themselves.

Yes and no. Remember those concessions apply to the other party as much as the Republicans. The democrats can now amend forever to halt Republican legislation. They also can tie the House up in procedural speaker votes if they so desire. Pelosi pushed through the rule changes to help keep a tiny democrat majority from being stymied by a strong (vote wise) Republican minority.

On the other hand, returning to something like regular order with respect to appropriations and budget is likely a net positive, though the goal of a net budget freeze will not happen without gutting defense. I suspect a large majority of Republican Congressmen will have little interest in participating in that during a period of increased tensions with China and Russia.
Well, we can scarcely gut defense given the recent failing report card on our state of readiness.

The problem with government systems such as in the US is that people like things in GENERAL but don't want them in PARTICULAR. For example most people are in favor of TERM LIMITS (in general) but don't want THEIR favorite Representative or Senator to have to retire, just when he/she is getting enough seniority to have some weight. Same thing in spending -THEY want a balanced budget but after that bridge across town is built.
So the system continues toward the cliff and no one including the general population really wants it to stop.
Yet, if we allow it all to implode, lose reserve currency status, etc. IT WILL ALL STOP--all entitlements, all pork, all of the gravy train, FOREVER. It's called "killing the goose that laid the golden eggs." Self restraint should be defined in its necessity in terms the whole populace can understand.

Yes, her husband is very successful.

Just curious, has anyone else had someone from the Census Bureau show up at their home to conduct a health and lifestyle survey on behalf of the CDC National Center for Health Statistics?
No but I do get an ag census form almost every year, supposed to be every 5 years, with questions that haven’t got a damn thing to do with AG.

Besides a sudden increase in lobbying activity for his lawfirms CCP linked Chinese clients (and Hunter Biden). What other ‘very successful’ activities grew their wealth so fast? Much of the wealth they had prior to 2016 was Cheney family money.

You’re the real ideologue. You’ll excuse any bad behavior from these swamp creatures and assume their motives are pure with zero evidence supporting it.

Laughable. I’m among several Republican members here who are a bit more pragmatic and would like to get something accomplished and are calling for a bigger tent instead of requiring all Republicans to conform to a narrow set of ideological beliefs and always just speaking to the base, which is the main reason why the beloved Trump lost to a closet dweller. I’m more interested in working with people to regain the Senate and the presidency so we can get something done instead just always fighting and turning others off with dogmatic rhetoric. I’m not into any cult of personality on Trump or anyone. Ideas, not people!

Very insightful article by Condoleezza Rice in the Post. Regrettably, I think she is essentially correct.

With a great deal of fanfare, we and the French have decided to provide the Ukrainians with "tanks."

Well not exactly. We are providing them 45 M2 Bradleys which are an armored fighting vehicle (AFV) designed to move and support infantry on the battlefield in conjunction with tanks. 45 such armored AFVs is the strength of a single mechanized infantry battalion. The Brad carries a TOW launcher, but it really is not designed to go toe to toe with main battle tanks (MBT). The French are providing them a wheeled reconnaissance vehicle with a 105mm medium velocity gun. It will kill a BTR or BMP, but will have real difficulty penetrating the frontal armor of a T72. In short, this is nothing but some sort of demonstration or message.

From excess stocks alone, we could easily provide them with two brigade equivalents of Bradleys (360). And the Germans and other NATO allies could easily do the same with Leopard 2 tanks. That would give Ukraine the striking power to achieve the sort of breakthroughs that would defeat Russian forces in Ukraine.

I am more convinced each day that Jake Sullivan is totally out of his depth.

Crap, we need to provide them the equipment to end this thing. Our folks in DC need to give their head a shake.

I imagine you are like me and didn't think highly of him from the start, so this is really saying something.
Not a lick of military or diplomatic experience - an election "strategist" - perfect choice for national security advisor. What could say more about the intended focus of international security decisions.

I'm sure that if J. Christopher Stevens was able to that he would give a glowing evaluation of Jake Sullivan as well as Ben Rhodes and Hitlery Clinton- unfortunately, their expertise has taken away his ability to communicate.

Perfect. Then what were Liz Cheney's ideas? As far as I could tell, she never had any, yet became number 3 in the house GOP. This was due to family connections only. She never grew our tent.

We'll grow the tent if we lead the way by clearing out our corrupt lifelong politicians that most of America resents and mistrusts.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
