Yes, but not common these days. The answer is to go totally off grid, sink a borehole, and either put in a large solar power bank or a large generator. All of our hot water is produced by solar but we still require a 15KVA diesel generator to power pumps, lights etc. That consumes about 2.5 litres per hour, so the running costs on fuel alone are about US$60 per day.

I read (on the internet) that the reason Whelan was not traded was a bunch of bad stuff about him- including a Dishonorable Discharge from the USMC. This I highly doubt- NOBODY gets a DD unless they are being executed for cowardice in the face of the enemy- For some reason the uninformed, such as the technical advisor to A Few Good Men only know of two discharges- Honorable and Dishonorable actually there are six- in addition to HD & DD, there is General Under Honorable Conditions, General, Undesirable, and Bad Conduct.

I thought people were supposed to know of what they speak before posting something- but evidently not, oh well, the poster probably is employed by CNN or MSNBC.

Hopefully all the vets will think as you do, as there a lot more vets than LGBTQ+. I’m not a vet and it has me PO’ed.
Don’t get me wrong on this: I’m glad we were able to get an American home… Even one that doesn’t stand for the National Anthem. However, this was like trading away the first pick in the NFL draft for the water boy from a MAC school. Pothead was in the news and a star athlete and thus made better press bringing her home. Brandon should have held out to get them all home.

First time I was aware of this background. It is true a BCD is not a dishonorable discharge, but in the Army at least it is still pretty serious. It is far more serious than what is called a Chapter 10 discharge for the good of the service. I know any soldier I recommended for a court martial and BCD richly deserved it. Looks like he did as well.

It is an odd case. Russia grabbed him on "espionage" charges. CIA recruits some interesting characters to serve in their non-declared ranks. I suppose Whelan could be one of those, though a thief kicked out of the American military would seem an odd choice. One also would think he would be a rather obvious asset to try and use within Russia. There are lots of Russian emigres in the US and Europe with axes to grind against Putin.

Assuming for a moment that Andrea Mitchell's initial report was indeed incorrect, and that Whelan was some sort of intel asset, it may well be that the Russians are determined to use him to swap for one of their actual intelligence agents. The name that comes up in some reporting is Vadim Krasikov, who is a convicted Russian assassin currently held by the Germans.

Something doesn't add up about Whelan being a BC discharged Marine and a spy held in Russia. Seems likely there is much more to the story. In any case pos Brandon and the swamp creatures behind the curtain pulling his strings did some sleazy political triangulation on this one. I can only hope voters have a memory but unfortunately, given the 2022 election results, I have little hope for that. Or they do have a memory but are so totally TDS brainwashed they will never be rational in thought or action.

As a twisted aside, Oswald tried something similar but for the other side. They were able to spot a wing nut and sent him packing. The rest is history.
