Picked up a used Weatherby Vanguard Sporter

The Anniversary Edition comes with AA Walnut
I don't think the make a Sporter in the Anniversary Edition, I could be wrong though.

Yea they do they make a MK V and a Vanguard in the 70th Aniversary edition the MK V runs about 5K and is a limited run and the Vanguard runs about 1200.00 and is not a limited edition but is limited to 300mag and the 257 both done the old school way Bright and Shiney

All I was saying is when I bought my Vanguard Sporter Stainless, it had really nice wood for the price, and now they have certainly cut costs in that department.

They make a basic sporter and that also make a deluxe model that runs about 400.00 more that has better wood , I'll try to get a pic up of the 70th edition

Pulled the stock off and relieved some pressure between stock and barrel, disassembled the trigger and took a fine knife polishing stone to it, still has just a bit of creep, but no more gritty feeling, nice clean break when it goes. Put it on the bags to re-zero it as it is not pillar bedded, and the top grouping is the last 15 shots consisting of 3 different bullets and 3 different powders, all 180 grain in the bullet department (180gr SBT, 180gr Interbond, 180gr Blemished).

Not bad at all! Should be ready for hunting with a little more work.

What Cal is the Weatherby

The last 15 went into the hole that is .75x.95", the others were shot, then adjustments made, I fired 40 rounds all told.
unless you are hunting at very long range leave it alone, fine hunting accuracy

Looking forward to a 30 caliber that doesn't beat me up as bad.View attachment 49089

This is one of the great things about handloading.

I had my No 1 in 300 H&H out at the range this weekend.

Out of the same rifle I was shooting 220gr Nosler Partitions at 2,800 fps, and 125gr Speers at 1,900 fps (with a few other loads in between those two extremes). My son was shooting his .308 Scout Rifle with full loads and 150gr Berry's Flat Nose at 1,750 fps.

Those light loads are addicting! One of mine this weekend was a 150gr Hornady at 2,000 fps (H4198). Felt like I was shooting a .223...but you know I could drill a deer at any reasonable shorter range with that load, in a pinch.

Of course, wasn't it Whelen who said "The 30-06 is never a mistake"? Not much a reloading man here in the CONUS can't do with a good '06. :D Beers:

Thats a nice rifle, I had some nice groups first time out with my 257, I had to switch to a taller mount because the check piece pushed my hearing protection up upon recoil, so now I have to start over again

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
