Pet peeves?

Trophy hunters & anyone who gets driven around instead of walk and stalk should take up another hobby. Anyone who thinks shooting from a blind or bait station has anything to do with hunting...all of the above : exploitation of resources by those doing it, and those charging for it.

The list could keep going to the point of crashing the site! lol!
Ten years ago i would have agreed with you ....till my son (Marine) came home from Afganastan disabled and unable to keep hunting without using these methods .
I'm sure there are others that are unable to maintain their passion for hunting without "cheating" .

People that think you need to have premium bullets because African plains game are somehow magically tougher than American Elk...........it's about shot placement.... I just love my Sierra Game Kings and Berger VLDs.

People that call game farms in South Africa and Namibia concessions.......like they are government owned and up for tender.......

Outfitters/PH's who complain about their hunters snapping twigs and refuse to include a new pair of Courtney boots with your Safari. If they can afford leather shorts, a mask and a whip surely they could provide their clients with a new pair of Courtney's when they arrive in camp.

mandatory tipping, when your told how much and who you have to tip.i worked for 40 years at the same place, never got a tip.

I hear you. The only tip I ever got was Mr. Diz in the second at Pimlico.

My only complaint is that I cannot spend more time there. I went in May for my 2nd trip and was only able to spend a month there in South Africa. I hated to come home because I was enjoying myself so much. :)

Anything else is just small potatoes on my scale of complaints. I just do not let it get to me. :)

It was my Courtney boots he threatened to take away! He should be able to amass quite a collection of boots I would think, maybe a second store at KMG in the future:)

It was the greatest motivational talk of the year. After that, you were like a bobcat.

The media calling an AR-15 an "Assault Weapon":mad:

Calling magazines, clips.

Calling suppressors, silencers.

Was looking at old posts and saw this. It chaps my ass to no end. I will say as a manufacturer of Title II guns (SBRs and cans, MGs and SBSs) cans are by legal definition either “silencers” or “firearm mufflers”. Suppressor is a term made up by the shooting community. That being said, I k ow exactly what you mean and I use the term suppressor unless it is on govt paperwork that I send to the ATF.

Calling the killing of an animal a “Harvest” make my blood boil! Hunters are not farmers, we’re not picking corn. Even cattle ranchers “Slaughter” their cows. Calling the killing of a magnificent wild creature a harvest is disrespectful to both the hunter and his prey.

If you can’t stomach calling what we do what it is killing…then take up photography!

Haven’t thought of it that way to be honest. Makes total sense though. “Harvest” instead of kill was maybe to be more PC, but let’s face it, the anti-hunting kooks aren’t going to change, so like you say, let’s call it what it is

Mine, you'd think for the daily rate in some countries, I could get a good cup of brewed coffee in the morning. Instead, we're served that lousy instant Nescafe.

I get off the plane in the first...whatever in America and head straight for a good strong brewed cup of Joe!

I was in CDG waiting to transfer to Bangui a few years ago. I walked up to a very pretty young woman at a coffee bar. She spoke perfect English, I ordered a cup of coffee. What she handed me was suitable for a 12 year old girls tea party. The cup was tiny!! The coffee was outstanding but there just wasn't much of it.

My hunting partner (Army) in RSA this year was wounded 10 years ago; blind, burned, and one-legged. He'll be hunting from a blind where his PH can guide his aim via an iScope adaptor. He's already taken bison, deer (Mulie and Whitetail), hog, and turkey. BTW - he also skydives tandem. He damned sure ain't "cheating" either.

Where the coffee is hot, strong and smooth.
Brewed daily, never bitter.

Couldn't agree more. We are all hunters. One mans choice is just that, his choice. I may not agree with it but I will never judge another hunter for what he/she deems as a good or proper hunt.
I don' believe in accepting everything anyone else does. As hunters, we have a code of honor to follow. Things that are legal are not always honorable. Some codes of honor can be personal (self- imposed range which game is shot at or the type of game taken etc.) But some are points are honor reflecting for our fraternity- skybusting ducks and geese is legal but hardly ethical. Most hunters know how this works. Every hunt camp has camp rules regarding what is right and wrong- you might break the rules once while you are new, but break them again, and you are not invited back the next year.

So I guess my pet peeve is hunters you let things slide that they know is wrong. As the saying goes " evil only needs good men to say nothing to flourish"

resurrecting an old thread...

"flat-shooting rifle"

using MPBR, most modern, shouldered cartridges are "flat-shooting" out to about 300 yards for deer/hog sized targets, give or take a little. With 7mm and 30 cal magnums, it stretches pretty close to 400

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
