Well, I was just out practicing with the bow and happened to have a pass through, on the archery target. The Broadhead imbedded itself into the fence behind the target.

The arrow penetrated a 12 inch thick fiber archery target, then went through 3/4 fence board and then imbedded this far into a very dry 2x4.

What hunt are you preparing for?

That's what I was guessing. Are you using a weight tube, etc to get up around 750? Who are you hunting with and where?

After reading about the Kwazulu Natal penetration tests I beefed the arrows up with weight tubes I found on line. With that large broadhead the it sets the arrows at a good FOC, not an extreme one. It sure makes those Arrows stiff.

Leeukop happened to have some Buffalo herding the Nyala, so I thought I might just protect myself with the bow if I could get it working properly.

Brickburn, did you used the German German Kinetics or the Chinese German Kinetics ( the contracted German Kinetics)?

The real thing.

Brickburn, I have the German, German Kinetics in 150 gn an still need to hunt with them this year. How is the blood trail with these blades?

German Kinetics are awesome but I really like the German Kinetics by Grizzly Stik. My first experience with these broadheads was bow hunting with Todd Cast of TNT Outdoor Explosion in Argentina for the Water Buffalo there. Todd got a complete pass through of his buff using the 200 grain single bevel broadhead. The Asiatic water buffalo in Argentina are 400 to 600 pounds heavier than the Cape buffalo in Africa.

One of these fellas brethren!

Very interested in the results of this hunt, i guided someone last year on Buffalo In zim with very similar arrow specs - after a few busted stalks we were lucky enough to have a old bull walk on to us and let drive at 15 yards (broadside) we found the arrow 50 yards away snapped off about eight inches from the head and blood up the shaft - though the trackers did an excellent job and we were on blood for close on two days we unfortunately never caught up to him again.
If all goes well and it's not too much trouble would really be interested in the penetration results Etc etc ... Good luck

Well done - it did the job thought it would have more penetration than that --- but it's in the salt

The Asiatic Buffalo don't have 'overlapping' ribs like the Cape Buff does. This makes all the difference in the world to the penetration.
I use a 2400 carbon shaft inside of a 1916 ali shaft for an arrow weight of 1050 gr off a 120lb draw weight compound bow. Even then there's no full pass through.
I have had a client using an 80lb bow with a 750 gr arrow get a full pass through though.. Luck of the bone I guess!

We were discussing the penetration issues and came up with the conclusion that the arrow is still not properly stable at 15m ( it's still flexing from the string push)! It would have done better at 25m.

Even with weight tubes I had huge issues until I changed the fletching to helical feathers.
If the arrow is not flying straight on impact you lose a lot of penetration for sure.

It's hard to get a arrow heavy enough and the spine not to stiff for good flight. I'm a tuning fanatic and will keep at it until I get a bullet hole through paper at 6 ft and again at 12 ft and then I make sure it's still good at 10 yards.

Very interesting - thanks for getting back to me - how far out does a stiff arrow straighten? What would be the recommended minimum distance?

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
