I just got a new pelican air and I am wondering if anyone has added any type of straps on inside to hold clothes down? It’s just an empty shell!

Been flying 1-2 times a month with my Air for 3 years now. As above, I use zippered bags as needed.

I got one and never ended up using it. But in the past when traveling with large footlockers, packing cubes were the best way to organize.

I use the packing cubes that it came with. Mine also has the lid panel organizer...

The Pelican Air has become the only case I use, besides my Tuffpak gun case. It’s fantastic. Big enough, nearly indestructible, goes great as baggage in a Cessna Caravan and very difficult for bad guys at the airport to break into. I’ve never done anything beyond just filling it up, locking it and flying. Never had a problem with the contents when I’ve opened in camp.

Like others have mentioned shop amazon for some travel pack cubes also they make a lid organizer with zippered pockets that attaches to the case. I have both and use them to travel. The pelican air is a great travel case. Much better than soft side luggage.

I just pack it full.

What size Pelican air do you guys recommend for your checked luggage?
I went with the 1615, actually got one for the Mrs as well. Plenty of room…one of those and a small backpack and you’re good to go. Both are fluorescent orange…a slight deterrent for a thief as they stand out vs blending in with more common colored luggage.

I have this one, its the largest without oversize fees....

I use lightweight zippered packing cubes of various sizes for clothes. Have a Nalpak set up for another when using it for camera/fishing gear.
Same thing we do, except we are using the Pelican 1560 for checked bags and 1510 as a carry-on. Keeps stuff very organized.

I use the Eagle Creek compression bags for most clothing. The Pelican Air are not that big and get full pretty fast. I have really enjoyed mine on many international trips. The only downside is that it may come out in the oversized luggage area. JNB calls it fragile thinking it is a camera case I suppose. No point in arguing but maybe it gets better treatment in handling.

It is amazing for it being at the max check in luggage size how small the inside compartment ends up feeling as you are packing it.

I like the idea of these but isn’t the weight of the case take away from how much you can pack? Compared to a standard nylon bag?
The weight is the downside if you looking to take lots of gear.
I personally like it because I don’t pack that heavy, and I anything I do pack (camera gear, ect) is reasonably secure. I have also brought fragile (glass & wood) souvenirs and gifts back to the States without them getting broken.
Mine came with the top organizer, but I took it out after the first trip just to make more room….Most of the stuff that would go in the top lid organizer just goes in my carry on anyway…

Several airports are requiring luggage that has at least one "hard" side, so the old school duffels and Navy sea bags can't be used. We have traveled (domestically) with a roller-duffel that worked OK, but you better not have anything fragile inside, because there is a good chance it could be damaged.

As for weight, my wife and I travel pretty light and even though we are using Pelican Protector 1560's (17 lbs empty), have never had a problem weighing less than 50 lbs. Another plus is that we've never had anything damaged. We also pack a travel luggage scale and keep our bags at least 5 lbs below the limit for those "airline calibrated" scales.

The last thing about Pelican luggage that I like is the fact that it's sealed. It always ends up in the back of a truck or bakkie and there is no thought given to our stuff getting wet or covered in dust. When we get home, we can hose them off and they are ready for the next one.

I think we've been traveling with Pelican Protector luggage for more than 10 years now and averaging a few airline trips per year with zero problems. I like the Protector cases for checked luggage because I've seen severe damage done to the Pelican Air cases by baggage handlers. Mostly at the corners or they have the wheels bashed in. If I had to change one thing, I'd switch out my Protector 1510 carry-on for a Pelican Air 1535 to save a little weight because we are usually the only ones handling it.

It helps to keep you disciplined!
