@Ray BPreviously I'd have disagreed. I consider any of the 257s a better cartridge for deer and similar game but the 243 did have a place for shooting prairie dogs in windy country, however with the advent of 1-7" twist barrels in .224 cartridges so that 90 grain High BC bullets can be used, the 243 loses out even in that category.
That's what I've been saying for years.
I've just been reading volume 1 of P.O Ackley hand book for shooters and reloaders. One 25 cal that caught my eye was the 25 Condor. It has a 1 in 7 twist barrel and fires a 160 grain 25 cal projectiles at up to 3,000 fps. The parent case is the 7x61 Sharpe and Hart.
That's some serious sectional density and a very high bc.
