I'm going on a Cape Buffalo hunt and have a CZ 375 H&H. What power optic would be optimal. I will only be using this for the CB. I'm bringing my 30-06 for plains game.

I would consider a 1 to 4-5 or 6 power scope.

I would look for one with a illuminated rectal.

Like Leupold, Trijicon and others.

Years ago many if not most would say nothing more than 4X or a 1-4X variable. Many now say just throw a 3-9X on it and keep it on 3X while hunting. Some say that the problem with high power variables is that when you want or need the lowest power its on the highest setting and hunting DG is not the time to have to mess with the dial.

If I was scoping a .375 today for a buff hunt I think I would get a quality fixed 4X scope in detachable mounts assuming iron sights on the gun. I have a Zeiss Conquest that always amazes me looking thru it. That would be my choice.

Well, I suppose if I am looking up someones "rectal" I might want some illumination as well.:crazylol:

Best $399 I ever spent was on my 3-9x Conquest. Have a 4.5-14X and 6.5-20X versions too.

For a pure CB gun I would seriously consider to put on a red dot type sight like an Aimpoint.

Agree with Uncle James!!!!! :-)

Totally agre with uncle Jaco, hahaha.

2.5 by 8 VX III Leupold is on mine. It has worked fine on my last three hunts and has been used on a couple of buffalo and plenty of plainsgame.

If you have to buy a new scope, I would suggest a compact 1-4x.

But you may also use whatever you have, as long as you keep it at 3x.

I have the same scope, as Mike70560 does, have not been able to hunt with it yet. The 375 H&H has a lot of range, short and long.

I have a Leupold 3-9x40 on my 375Ruger because it is good for short and long shots.

Just moving to DM. Yes, please ask your friend if he knows somebody who might be willing to support a persistent hunt in the snow.
