Wise man.
So what happens if we allow the .458 WinMag the same higher pressure and almost as long a COL as the .458 Lott is allowed ?
The Woodleigh data would allow the .458 Lott to be 3.465" COL with the 400-gr PPSN crimped in the middle of the cannelure with 2.800" brass.
If we allow the .458 WM+ load a COL of 3.425" by adding an extra cannelure,
we can load the same charge of H4895 as was a compressed charge in the .458 Lott,
using a drop tube for the .458 WM+ of course.
Even if the .458 Lott was in a 24" barrel and my .458 WM+ had a 25" barrel,
the .458 WinMag can have an MV subtraction for 1" extra barrel and it still wins.
And there is a better bullet than the Woodleigh 400-gr PPSN.
It is the Hammer Bullets 404-gr Shock Hammer.
Many of us .458 WinMag aficionados routinely load that bullet to +2500 fps at 3.380" COL in 22" to 24" barrel lengths.
That is with a non-compressed load of AA-2230.
That is a .458 WM+ load that works in any SAAMI .458 Winchester magazine repeater I know of.
One shot kills on cape buffalo bulls and bull giraffe thus far documented.
