One cartridge to hunt dangerous game for the rest of your life and it can't be a 375, what are you going with?

Tough choice, but I’d choose my .416 Ruger. I shot my only buff with it and it performed perfectly. Ain’t broke, don’t fix it. However, my next buff hunt will be with a #1 in .458 Lott, jut because I want to.

Another click bait, what is the meaning of life type question from @Northern Shooter

Have never used the ignore option, but giving it serious consideration.

Since accuracy on the first shot is more important that energy, I’ll go with a .404 J. On an R8.

I’ve taken hippos, ele and buff with an R8 in .375 (would have been my first pick). Amazingly, I’ve not yet shot a rifle bigger than a .375 (other than a .50 BMG and 20 and 12 gauge slugs). But, of all the rifles I’ve shot, an ultralight (7 lbs!) .50 cal muzzleloader with 120 grains of blackhorn 209 and a 300 grain bullet is about the most violent.

Man up! ;)

I’ve got a handsome.378 on a non Weatherby action that makes as much sense as anything. I’ve also got an HS Precision 416 Weatherby that’s crazy accurate, but that is braked, which is both good and bad for obvious reasons. My .500 A2 is awesome, but you really need to watch where you put your feet when you touch off a round. It’s really hard to beat the old H&H for convenience and practicality.

That's an easy answer for me...416 Rigby scoped with QD mounts and iron sights. I already have that but 416 Ruger or Remington is about the same and probably easier to find ammo for if needed on the road. For me, the 416 Rigby is very similar to the 375 H&H but with 100 grains more bullet weight. I could easily shoot it out to 250 or so. Africa just doesn't have that many long shots and never on DG unless you're in Moz hunting buff at 100-150 yards. I have multiple double rifles but that would never be my choice for only DG rifle. They are fun but far less practical than a scoped 416.

What would you choose? 9.3 doesn't count either.

A 416? 404? 458? Something bigger?

What and why?
404J. While i love my DRs if i can’t have a 375 then my 404J gives me the best option for both DG and PG

I would test to the limits the .375 ban, but if it was insurmountable, next up would be my .404J by Craig Libhart. Scoped, mine is set up for anything - just not as effective as a .375 - particularly in R8 livery. :E Shrug:

Custom .404 Jeffery by Craig Libhart

I’d go with a .416, either the Hoffman I have or the Remington which is nearly identical. It’s plenty for any dangerous game and also very good on plains game out past 200 yards. In its various offerings, the .416 caliber really is one of the most versatile and shooter friendly DG options.
