This photo itself is nothing special, taken 2 yrs ago while on roe buck stalk. 10 min later I got bluff charged by big brown bear. I was dumb enough to leave my rifle on that rock,I went to check the boar wallow near by. Its only like 70 meters from the big rock I used to sit on the top of. While looking at the boar footprints on the wallow,I hear something in thickets like 30 meters in front of me. It was a huffing sound,I was sure its big old boar bumped by something, who is just about to take a bath in the wallow after a long run. 3 sec of dead silence, and all the hell breaks loose. Charged from the thickets, when bear came on the clear patch where I stood on,he went from full sprint to a full stop. 10 meters in front of me. I froze for a second, and slowly walked away, but kept my eye on bear. When I was at the safe distance,I saw him standing on its hind legs, moment later he walked away back in the thickets. Saw bear while hunting million times before, but never got bluff charged with no gun. Lesson learned, never leave your rifle and fear the bear you dont see. Thank god this was not the last pic I took in my life.

Beautiful scenery and rifle.

You made out both ways...
#1 - Didn't get mauled and didn't shoot by forgetting your rifle.
#2 - If you HAD your rifle and shot it...having to explain it to fish & game.

Hard to tell what you (or anyone else) may have done in a situation like that.
Way to stay calm and keep your wits about you.

Even if I had rifle with me I would not shoot until bear is like 5 meters away and still going for me. People call me crazy, due to that but I really dont want to go thro all that things you have mentioned in the post above. And here in Croatia it would take weeks before they figure out that shot is fired in self defense. On short distance sudden charge I have no idea if I will even have enough time to take the rifle of my shoulder. Its only reason why I carry it in my hand non stop, only gun with sling is 12 ga for upland hunting. Got charged by wounded boars like 5 times but it was nothing like this. And now, when going to fill/check the feeders and cam off season,I carry a hand gun with me after that "incident".

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
