on a lighter note...

Criminy, I still remember the taxonomic orders of most of the insects that we have in the south.
As a retired HS Biology teacher, that is a big deal!!!

It is...

its essentially a pickled "slaw"... cabbage, carrots, onions, scotch bonnets, salt, garlic, lime, and peppercorns... all soaked in distilled vinegar for several days... some recipes call for adding bell pepper or other things.. but I generally stick to the basic list and have replaced scotch bonnets with habaneros (although any time I can find a scotch bonnet I buy them and make a fresh batch :) ) and have replaced green cabbage with red/purple cabbage..

Its as spicy as you want it to be... I typically use about 6x habaneros for every 1/2 head of cabbage... so its pretty loud around here.. but its easy enough to tone down if you prefer less heat..

It will keep for months... but most of the time a large 32 ounce mason jar like the one in the pic lasts 3-4 weeks tops around here :)
Thanks, I think I'll give that a try.

Not afraid of spider of any of those crawling things that can kill or hurt you. However, one of those big a$$ roaches we have here in the south, and you want to see a grown-up man screaming like a little b*tch, well that is me. You can take my man card away, if you like. I hate roaches with a passion, and I believe that I have an extra sense because I know and sense when they are around.

My wife is not afraid of them, so she is my hero. However, she is petrified of the little green tree frogs. So, we made a pack, she kills the roaches, and I take care of the frogs. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: (y) (y)

I’m not a reptile or spider keeper…at least not since my teens…but I’m not much afraid or grossed out by them. Just another critter to me. Same for insects…with the exception of cockroaches. They seriously give me the willies.

Same here! I don’t keep spiders or snakes as pets…at least not since I turned 15….but I just consider them another critter. Not roaches though….absolutely detest them.

In Panama, we used boric acid to kill roaches. It gives them gas and they can't fart.

I learned about Boric Acid a long time ago, and it’s one of those gifts that keep on giving. It’s good stuff to have, not so much for roaches :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Off the top of my head...

diptera - flies and mosquitoes
odonata - dragonflies and damselflies
coleoptera - beetles
hymenoptera - bees, wasps, and ants
hemiptera - true bugs
lepidoptera - moths and butterflies

scorpionflies have their own order (just can't remember what it is), and there aren't very many species of them. very unique and cool looking insects.

funny i still remember stuff like this that i learned 40 years ago, but have a difficult time recalling people's names quite often, always have.

yeah

no

Pretty sure I would just soil myself and die.
At least the next guest at your Haitian hotel wouldn’t know the difference.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
