Official AH Get Together In Atlanta During Dallas Safari Club (DSC) Convention 2025

2023 DSC total revenue: $11.4m
2023 DSC CEO salary: $340k

ProPublica says $323k for 2023…

In the Dallas market, for the level of responsibility held, size of the organization, requirements of the specific position (significant travel, meetings with senior state and federal political leaders, meetings with senior executives in outdoors industry, etc) that frankly is an average compensation package at best…

I belong to a formal roundtable/networking group of CEO’s and business owners in the DFW area… we meet monthly… there are more than 60 CEO’s that meet across a handful of subordinate groups..

$325k would be about middle of the pack in terms of compensation for that group…

Several make substantially more than that..

Like it or hate it, the facts are the facts… that’s average compensation for a Dallas CEO of an organization similar to DSC in terms of size and complexity…

Pay less, and you’ll get a substantially less qualified leader in the organization…

Edited to add: the new DSC CEO left Walther as its CEO to come to DSC and brings significantly more C-suite experience than the last CEO brought when he took the chair…

It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if he negotiated a comp package a good bit higher than the last CEO… and wouldn’t surprise me if this was less than Walther was paying him…

Would any of us prefer DSC cheap out and try to find someone less experienced and capable in the interest of saving a few bucks?

Nonetheless, while it’s a safe bet the new CEO is being paid more than the last one, it’s also a safe bet that he’s being paid somewhere between the median and 75% range for the position, and is nowhere near the top line in terms of avg comp for people in similar positions…

Sure seems like SCI is going from strength to strength. First, a highly successful and well-received move of their convention to Nashville. Then a purchase of TTH. Now they pick up sponsorship of Tracks Across Africa, which in my opinion one of the better hunting shows on TV.

You are right, $325, plus a bonus of $17k (I rounded down to $340k).
What blows my mind even more is that he got piad a bonus AND he was fired for his poor management/decisions.
I wouldn't want to be the new CEO having to deal with all the sh**t.
I really hope the show comes back on track, I will benefit the industry, the hunters and the outfitters. There is definitely room for 2 major clubs (SCI & DSC) for both to succeed!

<3% of total revenue for the head honcho in an organization doesn’t sound out of line to me

I know union trade guys that make well over $450k per year. So for a major org CEO its not out of line. a McDonalds job can now be $50k

Tunnels to Towers is one of the best at keeping admin costs down. And even they have a 7-10% admin cost. I’m a proud monthly donor

Was he fired? I was under the impression he quit.

Corey showed up as the new CEO of The Wild Sheep Foundation two weeks after DSC announced his departure. From a revenue perspective Wild Sheep dwarfs DSC. I’m sure it would be considered a promotion and likely carried a pay raise with it… and the timing would make “fired” extremely suspect.. he would have been in talks with Wild Sheep for several weeks, if not months before an offer would have been made, and since the job requires a relocation to Montana, his decision would have been made at least a few weeks prior to giving notice and DSC being able to make an announcement…

Knowing how DSC is organized and how major strategic decisions are made, I find it doubtful that the CEO called the shot on ATL. That was almost certainly a board decision that the CEO was told to execute.

Who ultimately was responsible for the communication and messaging of that decision, I don’t know…
