Norway Caribou/Reindeer Hunt

I am looking at booking a hunt in Caribou hunt in Norway. Anyone done that hunt or have any leads? Thanks in advance.

I was in Norway on business.
Norway is the most expensive country in Europe. (Without exaggeration).
So, in terms of pricing, expect anything.

Keep on mind that the successrate for a reindeer hunt is low. 20-30% of those who get a tag get their animal. Someone offering a guided hunt for sure has more success but there is really no guarantee. You might end up with memories of a week of fog, wet sleeping bags and world-class blisters

Norway is not inexpensive but its the only place in Europe you can hunt reindeer..

You can look into Scandinavian pro hunters. That is one of the hunts they organize.

Greenland would be a better option because in southwest Greenland the population of reindeers appears to have recovered. But forty years ago, I hardly saw any there and in the northeast of Greenland, only the bones of the caribou's remained in the tundra. They were said to have been extinct for almost 100 years.

In Iceland, the deer was introduced so that number of licenses would have to be very limited and in Norway, reindeer is also a domestic animal so that in my opinion the transition from tame to wild could be fluid.

The easiest option would still be Alaska or Canada, especially if one live in the USA, or has anything changed regarding caribou hunting in North America? Decades ago I went to the NWT/Canada several times to hunt caribou's and have always spotted big herds. No hunter at the time has come at home empty.

They seem to have really recovered, not comparable to the small one I shot with difficulty 1984 by
Søndre Strømfjord.

Prices here is higher , but the NOK is low now for foreign visits so it is something to look into .

I did such a hunt many years ago, I was with a group of local hunters that does this hunt yearly. They spoke very little english so things were foggy. I bought a hunting license and off we went, walked long ways to the " valley of the Reindeer" and stayed in a little dirt hut with 6 hunters, lots drinking and lots waiting for the deer to move up the valley.
On day 4 I sat on a hillside with a hunter that spoke better english, making conversation, I pulled out my license and asked him what it all " said" , I noticed it was little different from his. Well....., mine is for a yearling he said!!
No no I want to shoot a big one! Well, he said" as a " new" or firs time hunter you can only shoot a yearling, next year a 2 year old ect ect till year 5 , then you can get a " free license " to shoot any Reindeer you choose.
It was a experience at best, Im sure there are other ways to do it.....

I don't understand what you mean with "fog".

Reindeer hunting in Europe is something very special and does not seem to be that easy even for the locals in Norway. Since some of us have already hunted caribou's in various other countries, something like this stimulates discussion.

If you compare the other options for reindeer/caribou in Europe you only have Finland and Iceland.

Finland is about 15,000 Euros, and Iceland is about $5000-10,000 depending on who you book with.

Grand Veneer is correct, for as many reindeer live in Scandinavia there are not that many hunts, as most of them are livestock.

I will be in Finland in November hunting capercaillie. Every Finn I have asked in Rovaneimi about reindeer hunting laughed and said they were livestock.
