Florida Hog Hunt
My family and I were in Florida for spring break.
With my wife’s blessing, I was able to slip away for an evening of hog hunting with Westshore Outfitters.
I can’t hunt at night, hunt with an AR15, hunt with a night scope, or generally speaking hunt hogs in Alberta. When Captain Matt suggested a nighttime hunt, I could do all of these things legally that I had never done before. What’s not to like?
It did not take long after the hunt started for guides Billy and Chris to locate hogs, then lead me on a stalk that got me situated for an easy shot.
It’s true when they say that you can shoot as big a hog as you wish, with no extra fees. I selected the biggest one, estimated to be about 150lbs. It would have been nice if the cutters were more prominent, but it was still a unique experience. I would definitely do it again!
· Outfitter: Westshore Outfitters
· Guides: Billy & Chris
· Rifle: AR15 (parts gun)
· Caliber: 300 AAC Blackout
· Optic: Night scope
· Ammo: Barnes Vortex 110 Tipped Tac-TX
· Range: 50yds
· Damage: Bullet passed through onside shoulder without hitting bone, through the chest taking out the heart, broke the offside shoulder bone, but did not exit the hide.
· Time of Day: Nighttime!
