Hello from Colorado. This is such a great site that I had to join. It seemed like everything I googled would have some post from this site. I'm excited to learn as much as I can from all of you. I'm headed to SA next year on my first African hunt. A dream come true. And I will tell you since booking the clock has stopped. Lol.

Hey welcome, enjoyntje anticipation leading up to the hunt!

Welcome to AH sir

Welcome to AH Britt! You'll find answers to most any question about hunting Africa here.
Enjoy your planning and trip!

Welcome to AH Britt Beck! Congratulations on pulling the trigger on your first African hunting safaris, now be prepared to reload... Do not hesitate to ask any specific questions, we're glad to have you as part of our community. BTW what's on your list of species?

Funny thing about that!

Welcome to AH Britt. This site if filled with "guys" that know what they are talking about. Take some time and read through the forums that interest you. I warn you that they can be addicting. Ask any questions you like, you will get honest answers. Maybe not all the same since we as hunters have different experiences and preferences. What have you hunted in the states? with what kind of rifles? Do you reload? What are you planning to hunt in Africa? What outfit are you hunting with? Your answers to these questions will enable us to get to know you better.

I hunted just about everything in the states. Whitetail, Mule deer, elk, hog, mountain goat. Looking at a mtn lion hunt and hopefully one day ill draw my bighorn and moose tag. I just love to hunt whether it's archery, muzzleloader or rifle. Kinda of depends on what tags I think I can draw. I prefer rifle. We were diagnosed with the long distance shooting bug many years ago. I do reload. I have some 300s and down. Nothing over a 300 win. Where I do 99% of.my hunting. That's plenty. But I'm a 6.5 fanatic. My fav rifle today is the 26 nosler. I'm going with cruiser safaris in Limpopo for.plains game. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I just can't get over this site. I'm on a few sites, **NOT**PERMITTED** and longrangehunting. They are great sites but everyone on this site has been so helpful. But to me in the outdoor world that's what it's all about. We have all taken our first step. I thank all of you for all you help. I'm addicted. Lol

My sons and I hunted with Cruiser Safaris last August. They exceeded our every expectation. If you can, request Hans as your PH. That guy is phenomenal. I too am a 6.5 nut. Only mine is the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser. My reloads are averaging 2775 fps with a 140 Gr bullet. Not as hot as your Nosler 26 but still quite respectable. My longest shot was 220 yds. my closest about 65. I took 2 rifles, a 35 Whelen for the larger plains gam and the Swede for the smaller ones. Your 300 Win Mag and 26 Nosler will serve you nicely. Get plenty of practice shooting off sticks. Use a 22 or 17HMR for most of your stick practice. Switch to the hunting rifles a couple of months before you depart. We flew Delta out of Atlanta on Economy Comfort Seats and were glad we did. the overnight at the Afton House is top drawer as well. If you have any other questions just holler.

BTW have you read any of Nathan Fosters "Practical" series?

The 6.5 Swede is a great round. I don't really think any of the 6.5 you can go wrong with. I have the 26 and 260. I had the 26 built and is my little jewel. Its running the 140 nosler bt a little north of 3100. Its sure fun to shoot. I will request Hans. We do a lot of 1000 yard shooting which helps me a lot when they are 3 or 400 yards and in. I have looked at the delta flight out.od Atlanta. Did you hire someone as far as all the permits or DIY. I have travelled all over the world but never S.A.. I know some of the places I've been especially south America they make it.out a lot worse then they were. Also who did you use to transport or ship your stuff back. Highveld? And then oxi logistics? If you did. Do you mund.me asking how much you paid and what you shipped. I have a buddy going with me that's on a budget to a point and needs to know how much it is. I have emailed highveld and oxi and all.im.getting now is depends in size etc. Lol I understand that. I just asked them.to give me a ballpark. But still nothing. I will.look into the practical series. And thank you my friend. For all tour info. It all helps. I hope I can help you back.one day. If you ever plan a hunt out west let.me.know. maybe I can give you some help there.

Sorry, I did forget to mention the use of RiflePermits.com. Henry the owner is a Lawyer and SAPS don't screw with his clients. I strongly advise using him. They happen to be an AH sponsor. Look at the list of sponsors and click on them. Everything else is sort of self explanatory.
Re. the use of Highvelt, we did use them to dip and ship via oxi logistics. You will need to designate an Agent in the states that can receive hides, capes sculls etc. from foreign countries. We chose D & L out of Chicago, they are good people and Highvelt knows them well We chose to have our Taxidermy work done in the U.S. by a guy that we know and have used before.

Our stuff isn't going to be shipped out of SA till the last week of March. I won't know the final cost breakdown till then. You can ask Mary Ann at Highvelt to get you an approximate shipping cost, but it truly depends on what size crate is necessary. If you give her a list of the animals you want dipped and shipped she can work up an estimate.

Great info. Thank you. I will try them again. I have looked at Henry's site. I will get in touch with him.

Thank you very much. I am sending him an email.
