Here are a few photos from my last solo backpack hunt from the west coast of the south Island. It involved a 25Km hike to get to the head of the valley . Weather wise I had a bit of everything, heavy rain a bit of snow and enough fine breaks to get out and have a good look around. Over the six days I had hunting I saw 5 Bull Tahr and 16 Chamois.
Typical west coast side stream.
Bluff system at head of stream.
A nice Chamois Buck. His small body size made his horns look bigger than 91/4 inches.
A great place to be when the sun comes out.
A bigger Chamois, longest horn just under 10 inches shortest 93/4 inches.
Looking at the main ridge of the Southern Alps.
Bull Tahr-it was starting to get a bit cold as well.
Standing by small glacier.
