New Year's Reloading Resolution

My resolution for this year is to not in the remaining 364 days after 1/1/14 to never seat another .30 caliber bullet in a 7mm case and then wonder why it won't feed in the 7x57 caliber rifle! :nonono:

Honestly I only loaded one case that way, first for the 7x57. Took it to the rifle to make sure it would feed, of course it didn't, a good 1/4 inch shy. Standing at the bench and wondering what was going on I noticed the tray of bullets was still full.....that's when the stroke of genius hit me of course. Had a tray of .308's over to the left a ways but obviously not far enough.

LOL precisely why I never have more than 1 caliber/powder/primer etc out at the same time, for me that would be a guaranteed booboo eventually. At least it was a benign error.

Thank god it didn't chamber. Reminds me of a couple incidents at our local range.

One fella managed to cram a .308 win cartridge into a 22-250 chamber and dropped the pin on it. The resulting explosion almost took his head off. Had to be airlifted to Edmonton.

Another guy accidentally loaded up 100+ grains of pistol powder into a .338 Lapua Improved cartridge and dropped the pin. I found a 3 foot long banana shaped piece of his barrel 75 yards downrange.

Both are lucky to still be alive.

Seriously lucky individuals. I saw video where a rifle case was purposely filled with pistol powder. Rifle blew into many pieces. If there had been a shooter right at the rifle at minimum they'd have been seriously hurt.

Not sure how that guy managed to cram that .308W up a .22 hole, must've been a big guy. This was a blunder on my part, but one should never have to put much than a gentle push into chambering a bullet. I knew right away something was wrong. Took a moment or two to figure out what I'd done, but I knew something was wrong.

These bullets have a long boat tail on them so preliminary seating it fell right in. When seating there really wasn't much effort in pulling the press lever.

I hear you, it's my usual practice too, especially with powder. My bench is in the garage, but the powder is stored in the laundry room. One powder and only one powder out at a time.

Although the Lapua guy may just have been careless the 308 guy is a shoe in for the Darwin awards.

With the high mechanical advantage of modern reloading presses I can see it happening up to 1 caliber difference without too much effort. Im sure it took far less effort than full length sizing a case.

Ya it must have taken quite a bit of effort to cram that round in there. Even worse he almost took out the guy to left and right of him. Both were picking pieces of wood stock out of themselves for a couple of days. Almost tore the guy to the lefts shirt clean off his back.

Can't say I've tried to put the wrong size case in the wrong size sizing die. But I'd suspect sticking a .300WM case up a .308 Win die would be virtually impossible if you were anyone other than Hercules.

LOL I just meant in less effort than properly full length sizing in the proper die. I bet you could do the 300 WM in a .308 die but it would look like an ele stepped on it.
