I have spent many hundreds kilometers in vehicles just like that.

It is beyond my comprehension that Toyoda has never marketed the 70 series Land Cruiser in the States. Best I can tell they sell it just about everywhere else on the planet. I would own one in a heartbeat as would thousands of others.

Give me a MQ or GU Nissan patrol over a Toyota any day. Far stronger drive line in the Nissan plus they make a good Toyota recovery vehicle .

i just love those old short wheelbase toyotas they turn into bull catchers in the northern territory.
steel bars and steel plate welded on where necessary.
and a hydraulic arm to swing down and grab a scrubber by the neck.
sometimes the bulls take over and hunt the toyota, so look out driver.
the drivers have to just smash through quite big trees and scrub, and avoid anthills while endeavouring to get in close to grab the bull while a helicopter is trying to steer the bull away from the really thick stuff.
women do this job as well as men and are fearless.
once captured the bulls are tied to a tree until they can be winched onto a truck.
the same is done with buffalo.

With those SWB jobs you also have the advantage of getting to know your chiropractor very well because they kick the crap out of you on the rough stuff more than a bucking bull. But man on man do they get you places others fear to tread.

Good old truck but still has a non synchro first gear. Is the old girl petrol or diesel. I do like the old Toyotas and Nissan .

It will admit it was difficult when I was coming out of high school. But, I have learned to live with it.

She was rebuilt with the 70's era 4.2L gas motor and drive train. Not sure many diesels were ever brought into this country back in the day.

Didn't know the old tojos came with a 3 speed mate. All I've seen were 4 speed.
The old Nissan tho had a 3 speed as well a low range 2WD as well as low range 4WD.

My ‘69 is a 3 on the tree. No need to lock it up. No one under 50 has a clue how to drive it.

Side note, one of the best gearings on a cruiser is a 3 speed rear end fitted with a 4 speed tranny. Cool conversion when done in conjunction w power steering convert (Chevy collapsible column/pump/etc., only requires one custom bracket.

I think classic 4WDs bring something out in people. A sense of adventure and simpler times. My kids have all grown up in Land Rovers and that’s what they want as their first car. No AC and canvas seat cover. Congrats on the cruiser. It’s beautiful.

That's a bit of a step down in a fun vehicle mate.
Love the older ones , no computers to play up miles from anywhere, simple to fix and maintain.

I agree whole heartedly. But this one had 100,000 km on it so barely broke in for CA$10.000. A decent Landcruiser of similar (totally rebuilt) condition would be several times that. At least. They have not been sold in CA since the early '80s. So I got the best rig I could afford. It's a very solid reliable truck with supercharger, and dif lock. Two sets of tires. But if I ever win a loto I'll be in the market for a Land Cruiser.

Serious kit, @Red Leg. Those foot vents work very well for cooling down your feet on a hot day. A/C is good tech but you can get sick of having it on all the time.
You might want to look at Terrain Tamer options where parts need replacement.

It is straight forward and replaces that solid column with a collapsible one, much safer! Google Toyota trails magazine, Mark Whatley wrote a good article on the conversion.

It’s a 3 season rig without AC for sure. I’m in Bama and am going with a bikini top so it will be a garage queen in July and August!

This is more for our UK and other right hand drive members. We have recently come across a trove of 13 early series SWB Land Rovers, 9 are series 0 apparently and the rest Series 1. All sorts of condition, two are runners, 4 near runners and others a way to go. Also a shed full of engines, gearboxes, axles, carbs, etc etc. Lots of work, but lots of fun and satisfaction ahead for the owner, if he ever gets it done.

Had a Toyota Land Cruiser in 1966 and rebuilt it. Installed a Chevy 454, 4 on the floor and 10 x 16.5 mud and snow tires. Rigged a winch on a receiver hitch so I could use it front or back. We were into four wheeling in the back country and running sand dunes. Nothing could stop or slow that rig down. Great Jeep recovery vehicle. Sad to let it go but Boss Lady said we needed a family car for the kids.

Very nice toyota. I see a few here in Colorado but none that look so good
