New Ruger M77 African in 9.3x62 caliber

For anyone with experience with a 9.3x62 bolt rifle...any recommendations on factory ammo?

A word of caution on these rifles. Read the owner's manual! Check that Angled screw is torqued to 95 inch pounds as specified. Do NOT over tighten the screws on the trigger gaurd. If you do, you end up permanently squashing the wood and then may have problems with the floor plate closing.

Ruger rifles are designed differently than others. They are typically very accurate when set up correctly.

If you get around to reloading the 286gr Prvi partisan projectile is a cheap but effective projectile. I use a mild load of 56gr Varget and get 2260fps, dropped a red stag at 100yds, complete penetration. Completely destroyed the spine where it joins the chest.

Just ordered mine, should be in this week.

Did you pick one up on gunbroker?

I did. I was going to wait until tomorrow and hunt around with my different dealers but the auction was ending and didn't want to chance it. Same price, so I went for it.

There is another one on GB for 1200 in Florida, free shipping.

Haha, I picked up the one that ended 6 hours before yours for 1035 plus shipping

Thats Awesome! It'll go nicely with my lipsey 275 rigby and my RSM 375 H&H. I'll be ordering rings from Alaska Arms llc today.

I missed the 275 rigby, and they are hard to find now, but I do have the 6.5x55 from last year. I was guessing this would be this years caliber, and anxiously was waiting some word.

Any thoughts on next years caliber? since they seem to want to only do long action it would be a .30-06 or 8x57 maybe?

That's a shame, the 275 is a great shooter, I'd pick it up if you find one on GB. I had know idea the 9.3 would be this year because they had already done it, I did hope though. My guess or my hope rather, is that they do 7x64 brenneke or 300 H&H, Preferably the H&H, though either would be nice. I'd be surprised if they did a domestic chambering like 30-06 through 338 win mag because of the "African" line of rifles. Not to say they won't though. You can email Lipseys for suggestions, they've asked for it in the past. I don't remember the guys name but I suggested the 9.3x62 for several years now.

The problem with all of this is deciding what two rifles to take lol.

If it wasn't for Sierraone's post, I would've missed out. So thanks for the Heads up!!

If you are a serious buyer and have not found an FFL/dealer in your area to order you one, PM me NLT tonight. I have one that will be here either Monday or Tuesday (this one is not for sale), and can possibly have one or two more, but they have to be ordered tomorrow. If you are not familiar with the rifle or the caliber, just Google this thread name.

Does it have a muzzle break?

@Mark Biggerstaff I might be interested as well. The seller I bought mine from on Gun Broker is acting funny now.

I have one in a CZ. It's going to SA with me in May. Accurate as hell and a pleasure to shoot. My new favourite caliber.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.
