New Ruger African in .275 Rigby

So I bought one, paid to much for it but I needed it because I already bought 275 R headstamped brass and it is a beautiful little rifle when seen in person. I'm not real crazy about the looks of the rear sight or the huge Ruger engraving on the bottom metal. But like the saying goes, "if you are ever lost and bored, you can always read your Ruger".
My first attempt at loading for this is going to be the 162 ELD-X. I will let y'all know if I can get them to do anything spectacular.
I talked to my buddy at Cabelas and he said that they purchased 175 of the 250 made. They went to Ruger to make it a cabelas exclusive but they didn't want to buy the whole 250. I don't quite understand why they would be worried about buying an additional 75 rifles but that kind of gives an idea of how the distribution from lipseys went down.
Cheers,
Cody

Hi Spike...If life ever brings you to Houston, get yourself invited to his house.
Only then will you understand why "some" of us talk about Cody the way we do!!!

It isn't. Besides, it takes more than whiskey to make Cody hallucinate!

Sounds like a great light rifle for an old-fashioned hunt in old southern Rhodesia. :A Banana:

Or some other fine African destination

I am only a lite beer drinker maybe a glass red wine, and a very few at that, no hard liquor! I promise it is not a hallucination!

Cabela's in Buda has two of these rifles in stock right now if anyone is still looking for one.

$1149.00 is a pretty good price also. Expected it to be higher!

They bought 175 of the 250, dealer price was 865 if I remember correctly. So they aren't doing badly in the profit area.

We were at Cabelas today and I saw one in the “fine gun room” got home and looked it up. Wife went out hunting and I went back to Cabelas. The gun stood out to me and after reading a little about it I figure it better come live at my house. They have a sale that ended today got it for $1035 plus tax. Can’t be happier. Daughter is already eyeing it up.

November 6 at 20:45 hours, Cabela's has ONE rifle left. I have just checked their website.
As my father would say
"This is a sh*t, or get off the pot time".

There's always one guy who will ask why didn't I buy it. Reason is because I have "New York-itis". I hunt with a Blaser because the baggage gorillas don't know I'm traveling with a rifle, hence, they don't try to steal it or do a drop test on it, ot run over my stuff with a truck. All you guys have seen or experienced first hand, the delicate handling of your rifles.

Upped my game on glass for this rifle. Replaced the Weaver with a Swaro 3-9x36 with the plex reticle. This may hurt if I like this scope as much as I believe I will.

Anyone having problems with misfires using the Hornady Custom ammo with the 139 grain Interlock? I've got three dimpled primers with no kaboom. Where is my kaboom?

Did they go on the second try?

Have you tried any other ammo, to confirm it is the ammo and not the rifle?

Not the fifth or sixth either. Shot half a box with no problems, three duds, and one more from the box shot fine. Shot one round from a different box and it went off properly.

Contacted Hornady and they want the Ammo shipped back to test. Which, I have four boxes I can't trust at this point.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
