@ActionBob any chance you can get a 2nd one? I've struck out with a few dealers down here
Assume you who are interested in this rifle are checking the on-line auctions? Gunbroker lists at least a couple - http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=ruger+.275&Sort=13

Things like the above offer is so telling for the AH forum.
Well Done @Red Leg! You're a true gentleman!

Damn, had a big setback today. Called Reeds to be sure the gun was in... yip, Ruger Guide gun in 416 Ruger, right? NO!
They had even sent an email confirming "Ruger African 275 RIG".
Turns out the guy had that correct but the wrong part number. So waiting until Monday to see if tbey can sort it out
I did shoot the short barreled FS one yesterday. Used 7mm Mauser labeled ammo. The cheap Federal Power Shok 175 grain soft Point RN stuff, Very long bullet. Fed and functioned just fine. I was shooting in the back yard off the deck, just leaning on the deck railing and sitting on a kitchen chair. Open sighted, shooting at an old garage sale sign Low and left but consistent. I can't see the sights all that well, but not sure if I want to scope it or not..... It would make a great rifle for hunting whitetails on this place so I just may put a low powered scope on it?
I was wearing ear muffs but it didn't seem to have an overly large amount of muzzle blast.
I believe it is a 1 in 8.75 twist. What bullets does the collective forum wisdom suggest? I hope to take delivery of one of these rifles next week. Eventually I will reload for it.I'd try a heavier projectile. You might find it is a very fast twist that will suit 160gr+ projectiles better. The throat is probably very long as well.
So ..... what is wrong with that group? The 140 gr Remington is a little slow for bullet weight (designed with all those old Spanish military mausers in mind) but that is a superb MOA group and the bullet will kill any deer that ever walked.Range results with my Ruger .275 Rigby:

Sorry for the delay, but I have had no good news to report. All shooting was from the bench.
The first day out, we were shooting Hornady .275 Rigby 140 grain ammo with open sights.
We had to bring it in to 50 yards, since we couldn't see the open sights well enough to hit paper at 100.
We could never get a tight group even at fifty with the iron sights. Close enough to kill a deer but still not very good. In addition, with this Hornady ammo, on the second box we had 7 or 8 misfires. It appeared the primers on the misfired rounds was set too deep in the case. You could see it and feel it with the finger tip. We were glad to have other rifles to shoot thank goodness since we were disappointed with the new Ruger.

Since last week, we mounted a low cost Nikon 3x9, bought a brand of ammo I can't recall in 7x57 140 gr and some Remington Core Lokt 140 gr. After many rounds down range at 100 from the bench, the below target is the best we could do.

The bull is two inches across. The three shots to the left of the bull are the brand I can't recall but are 7x57 140 gr. The tight group at the top of the bull are Core-Lokts 7mm Mauser 140 gr. Keep in mind that the one tight group was the best we could do with nearly 3 days of shooting. We never duplicated another group this tight.
I have two boxes of Nosler Trophy Grade 140 gr 7x57 Mauser on the way but they won't arrive until next week. I also was in Houston yesterday at Gordy's and met up with two other AH members. They gave me some advice which I have passed on to my son. If the Noslers don't perform as they have for me in other calibers, he will start to make adjustments to the rifle or scope based on their recommendations. Only after it starts grouping consistently, will I hunt for a higher grade scope for the rifle. By the way, the Ruger rings that came with this rifle, were extremely rough. Didn't mind too much with a $100 scope, but when I mount the next scope, I will use Leupold scope rings. I hope many of you other new Ruger owners have had better luck than I!!!
