New rifle

I have a 22/250 and 270
And numerous bigger calibers
I’m only small so looking a Kimber 84
Which is a fairly light rifle
I do not want a synthetic stock
Choice is Kimber or Sako

I’m looking for suggestions that would fit somewhere in the 22/250 270 300 range (I think)that I have

Any suggestions!????

I am a fan of the 7mm-08

I have been reading a lot about the .260 lately.

I think Sako might offer the .260. For a small frame it might be easy shooting if you are considering a lot of shooting from this rifle.

I would consider a .25-06 if it is chambered in the rifle brand you want? I have been looking for one in a lower priced rifle, but right now with the hunting rifle scarcity of choices here, I haven't been able to locate one. I did find some ammo for the .25-06 though at pre pandemic prices.

Or consider a Howa 7mm-08 like my grandson shoots.
Comes with a minute of angle guarantee.
He is now 6 foot tall and has outgrown the child stock shown, so, he gets the adult stock for Christmas when he is home from college.
Yes, that is a 10 pointer in the grass and the mount has displaced my 10 point mount in our living room. Look carefully to see the shot entry hole just behind the right shoulder - good placement from 150 yards.

A long range that I believe comes in Kimber is the 280 Ackley Improved. Of course it won’t “pound” you as hard as the 300. They make a lovely 257 Roberts as mentioned above. Also the 25-06 is an excellent long range cartridge.
I keep bringing up “ long range” because it’s a long way between everything in Australia!

I found a Sako 85 Grey Wolf on GB in 6.5x55SE, however it's a bit on the heavy side coming in at 9#. A classic caliber and a beautiful rifle.

I’m looking at 25/06 atm but it’s so close to the 270. Likewise the 30/06.
The more I review the more I realize I’m in a quandary.

IMO your gap is between the 270 and big bore, not the other way. I think a 300 wsm would be a good choice.

If you are open to a lever action, a Browning BLR 300wsm has a lot of firepower and weighs 6 3/4 pounds bare rifle. Also, the X bolt in standard wood or Medallion weighs the same. You put a 12oz scope on it and not get too crazy with rings/mounts and you are looking at sub 8 pounds. A nice handy weight for a hard hitter

My problem is I have a 270 and a 300 Winchester magnum,
I still do not know what to get.
Bob Nelson won’t be impressed but I was considering the 243 in Kimber.
Action Bob suggested in another post that I should consider the 6.5x55.
Is the 6.5 reasonably close to the 270??
I noticed a fair number of these caliber rifles in the local gun shop (previously I never saw any)

So I guess I’m asking about the above cartridges/rifles.

I have to be honest and add my distain for the 243 from years ago reports of failures on the winter wet hides of the deer and not much better than the 223, so for my money the 6.5's are a very good cartridge for our small deer, goat and pig species although the performance of the 260, the 6.5x55 and the 6.5x57 are all close to what the 270 brings so not a great step between them while the Grendel offers a lot in a small package of light rifle and recoil with good performance out to a 300yds +. I lifted the grendel performance with my Grendel -Max but even the standard grendel is a very good performer on these sized animals with spectacular kills way above what might be expected from this little cartridge. For the one rifle the 100gn ttsx and/or the 123gn sst will cover a range that will really surprise with its capability.

@Dr Ray , I know you are a Sako fan so why not consider the Bavarian carbine with the full stock. Beautiful rifles! A 243 or a 6.5 Swede.

JMO Dr Ray, but I think you should just get out and shoot what you’ve got! It’s a pretty well rounded battery.
