Welcome to the forum, Jerry !

Yes take advantage of the bowhunting if you can and I like the idea of having either as an option, you get to experience two totally different hunts and opportunities.

South Africe, I'm booking with KMG .
I'm mostly looking at Gemsbok and Zebra with my rifle. I'll choose for sure the other 2 when they step out in front of my bow, likely impala or something similar.
Matt's desire is Kudu, wilderbeast, warthog, and impala or something similar.
Marius has also offered to take us on a nuisance predator hunt one night, if we want to, for jackel, brown hyenia, etc. which sounds like fun.

my wife and i plan to go back in 2 years, 3 at the latest.

Sounds like a great time acomin', you will be amazed with the game and their resistance to being shot at. And if you can limit yourself as you plan, you are a much more self-contained man than I. I went over to bird hunt and maybe shoot an impala or warthog. I shot seven plains game animals over 15 days. And I just booked my flight to repeat my "once in a lifetime hunting adventure" like everyone told me I would. Take at least two cameras and a power converter for the battery rechargers and hand carry them on the plane. When I'm talking with folks now and someone steps into the mine field with "Oh, what was Africa like?" well, out comes the smartphone that has all of it downloaded. I'm a real bore. I'm following Craig Boddington's description of the first time safari veteran.

Jerry welcome to the forum

Seeing you are a Babtist minister, please excuse the language sometimes, normally it's all in fun:p

Savage Hunter Welcome.
You really have a good wife! Some guys really have a hard time!
Coming to Africa please make sure your gun case is as robust as a rugby ball. It has to be able to take a great deal of man handling. The guys at the airport are not gentle with the luggage.

no worries. I'm not easily offended, nor a pharisee.
ever heard the saying "that's enough to make a preacher cuss!"
it's really not as hard as one thinks. I Scratched the stock on my daughter's ruger, that did it.

Jerry Welcome to AH from an Alabama Boy!

WOW! this place is full of surprises! I hunted a lot of folk from Birmingham a long time ago! They were all good fun people! I'd like to take my wife through Alabama and the southern States in the next year or so!
