My daughter teaches at Wallburg Elementary and is after us to move to Davidson County. We are seriously considering it as real estate prices in Buncombe have gone as crazy as the politics.
You won't regret it. I grew up in Wallburg and live just outside the town limits now. Everything is more expensive than in the past but still quite affordable overall and nobody cares if you try out your new 9.3x62. The big golfcourse neighborhood (Meadowlands) used to be the local dove fields and cow pasture.

Dukeisok, welcome to the AH forum! To get yourself to Africa, start here by clicking on the “Safari Planning Guide”. Lots of helpful info to get you started. Enjoy!

Welcome to AH !

Welcome aboard Dukeisok! You have a good start on a collection of African calibers. However, I need to point out that you are missing a 404 Jeffery. What is that you say?? Until joining AH I'd never heard of it either, now I have two of them. There are lots of outfitter / sponsors on AH that can accommodate non-hunting guests and family. Some are near Kruger National Park. Use the "search" function to find reports of these kinds of hunts.

Just what I need, a group of enablers.

That said, I am always on the lookout for my next toy. As a practical matter, I reload my 416 rigby and am not sure that 404 Jeff fills a different space. It seems to be very similar ballistically, especially if the rigby is loaded down slightly. On the other hand, it is undeniably cool and practicality has little to do with it.

Is there a manufacturer of 404 Jeffrey rifles currently or is this strictly a used/custom business?

Welcome to AH

Dukeisok! let it be said that you have a firm grasp of the obvious. I too had a 416 Rigby prior to getting either of my 404(s). Like you said "they are undeniably cool, and practicality has little to do with it." I find the 404 a little softer on the shoulder. In the States, 404(s) are pretty much a used/custom business. There are several "Smiths" that we can recommend to turn a Win. Model 70 into a 404 Jeffery working rifle at a reasonable cost. Apart from those, a full custom rifle is going to be "somewhat" expensive.

Welcome to AH.
Hang around here long enough you'll be in Africa sooner than you think.

To be a first time hunter in Africa again! I envy any man headed on safari for the first time. You tell yourself "it's a bucket list thing, I'm only going to do this once"... Then you've booked the second trip before the first one is even over. All of the sudden you need higher ceilings, more guns, and a higher paying job.

Introducing myself as a new member. I live in Central North Carolina. Never been to Africa but came to hunting as an adult. I love hunting and teaching my kids to hunt.

I've been reading everything I can find on Africa for years. I hope to make a trip in the next couple of years but have to convince the wife.

In terms of firearms, I'm a bit of a collector (my wife would say accumulator) and a reloader but my current stable of African appropriate weapons includes win model 70 in 375h&h, a kimber talkeetna in 375h&h, and a cz550 in 416 rigby, because you never know when an errant cape buffalo will walk through my back yard in North Carolina and because I always wanted one after reading Horn of the Hunter and Jack O'Conner. When cz stopped making them I jumped on the first one I could find. On a lighter note, the largest zoo in North America is a few miles away and if things get really bad with covid I can always feed my family...
Welcome to AH a bunch of great guys on here including myself and @ Spike T believe it or not ;-)
Sure you will enjoy it!
My best always.
Jaco

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
