Hello absales,
Khomas Highland Hunting and Fishing Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.
When you can spare a minute, I invite you to have a look into the Khomas Safaris website.
Meanwhile Sako rifles ya, there are many here who enjoy rifles and are true experts at identifying rare ones as well as helping figure out how to correct malfunctioning ones.
Although yours truly is definitely not an expert with rifles (or with anything really), I am a rifle enthusiast nonetheless.
Fourty-something years ago, when I was living in Occupied California, an Almond Farmer I used to shoot ground squirrels with had among others, a Sako varmint rifle.
My elderly memory thinks it was a Vixen model.
It definitely was a factory made heavy barrel, in caliber .222 Remington Magnum, with a large Scope on it.
Said scope might have been a Unertl or ?
Attached below are pics from internet advertisements, that look similar to what I remember of his squirrel getter.
His rifle was however not the standard .222 but as mentioned, it was the now almost forgotten .222 Remington Magnum.
He was an avid hand loader and with Sierra bullets, he could put 3 shots into a ragged hole at 100 yards from sand bags, with that rifle and scope.
I had a Model 77, heavy barrel, Ruger .220 Swift, with vintage Leupold 10X scope, back then.
So, between the .222 Magnum and my Swift, many of those little rodents were sorry they ever set foot in the orchard.
Anyway, cheers for now,
Velo Dog.
