Welcome to the forum. My husband is also a pilot and works for Alaska Airlines right now. Looks like you have a set up that my husband would LOVE. We have targets set out to 1000 yards but that's it. Anyway, enjoy AH! Sue
Hi Sue, Thanks, and Welcome to you too.
Your welcome thread is going to keep you busy for a while, so I will reply here. Very neat to hear about your book, I will look it up.
I used to fly into Anchorage now and then on the CX 747 freighters. What does your husband fly?

We actually LIVED in Anchorage! I lived their 3 years and Rick was there for about 8. That is where we met. He proposed to me on the top of Flattop Mountain which I'm sure you know about since it is a famous hike right on the outskirts of Anchorage. Anyway, he flew in bush Alaska working for Era Aviation for those 8 years. Most of the time he was based in Bethel Alaska. Then years later he took an assignment for search and rescue in Barrow Alaska when we were already living in Cottonwood Idaho (so he commuted back and forth 2 on 2 off). He did this when we bought a small Backcountry Aviation business in Grangeville and contracted out to the Forest Service spotting for fires in the summer months. (We had to pay for it somehow. LOL) Then just when things were going great and the business was making money, we lost our director of maintenance and couldn't find someone else that we trusted to take over. It is a demanding job taking care of three airplanes flying heavily ...but we only needed them 3 months so we couldn't compete. Thats when he started flying for Alaska airlines. I hate to admit this....but I'm terrible with details about what planes he flies! They are the big ones that fly across country ....but not wide bodies. Alaska airlines now flies to the East Coast, Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, etc. so he gets pretty good flights. Sorry to be so long winded.

By the way, I was a flight attendant for Era Aviation and at the time, we could fly for free on freighters. That was a FUN way to travel across the country!

Definitely check out my book. I think you will enjoy it since I also talk a little about our time in Alaska and of course Idaho. Sporting Classics magazine just wrote a review on it in the November issue which was exciting. I didn't even know until someone told me! Anyway, great hearing from you. Where did you fly after Anchorage?

Sue

Hello everyone,

Althought I have just joined, I have been reading the forums for a quite a while, lots of great content, and helpful members. (Should have joined sooner)

My background started at age 7, 22lr, and shotgun shooting. Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Bird hunting came a bit later, all with my Father. Not much big game hunting, as he was not interested in that form of hunting, only the shotgun sports.

Over the years I took an interest in rifles and reloading and now have way too many. I do plan on a trip to Africa to hunt and have begun practice from all the advice I have read here.

I own a small farm, the "Windsock Ranch" and have built multiple different shooting ranges, shotgun and rifle, with the longest rifle target at 776 yards.

As a retired Airline Pilot, I do obsess over the smallest details, especially in my metal workshop. You may notice that in my future posts.

Cheers,

The Captain
