New Lipseys Hawkeye African in .270 Winchester?

Both @Cheesehead & @ThreeJacks mentioned that they would have liked to have seen it in 7x64 Brenneke. Just as an FYI, a Ruger MkII in that chambering popped up on GunsInternational today. It's not a rifle I see very often. As expected, the asking price reflects that.

As a southpaw shooter, Ruger has only seen fit to build the African models in 375 Ruger for me. But I already have two 375 H&H rifles (LH Winchester 70 & an 1885) so that chambering doesn't have a lot of appeal. I got a Ruger No. 1 RSI in 275 Rigby because I got tired of dreaming about a LH African in that caliber (not a bad compromise since I love that rifle).

It seems like Ruger has brought a lot rifles to market finally. A look on GB shows a slew of 375 Rugers and 416 Rugers available. There's lots of 375 Ruger ammo available, but not so much on the 416 Ruger.

That one is overpriced. One sat on GI for months and finally sold for $1250, then one popped up on Gunbroker overnight, it was in my email this morning, but sold for a Buynow of $999. I would have bought that one!

Pretty nice example of a Browning Safari Grade here at a decent price; but anyone who knows these guns knows that they're DOM is off by 10 years, and I'm betting that is almost certainly not the original hang tag. Thie Gun Library manager is a little over his skis on this one, but maybe that's an opportunity for the buyer:

I don’t want to hijack the thread, but I’m building an African Express rifle in .275 Rigby (7x57), and it seems like this group would have the best input. Two questions: Would you leave this wood the natural color with hand rubbed oil finish, stain with brown or stain with red? What type of sights would you recommend, banded front like Holland and Holland or the island type like the second attached picture? The example express rifle is an Old African Rifle that RJ Renner built for me. Thanks everyone!

I started another thread because I was blind and didn't see this one!

I’m wrestling on whether to get one or not. I am a big .270 fan however I’m not sure I want an African in it.

Honestly I always had thought the African series to be steeped in foreign hunting heritage. .275 Rigby. Then 9.3x62 and 6.5x55 Swede.

Then I had zero interest in the .280 AI. A good round but no real heritage. .35 when likewise was a great round but it deserves to be in a Remington 700 or a sporterized Springfield.

I had honestly been hoping to see 7x64 or 9.3x64 come up in the rotation. I wish I hadn’t passed on a custom 9.3x64 African I had seen.

I am really wanting a .22 hornet....I'm on three wait lists but down a ways and I'm thinking I won't get one.

Well, as an owner of a 280ai and 375 ruger in Africans, I look at it more in that they are good calibers in a rifle that is styled the way I like. I also happen to love 280…. I don’t worry that they aren’t ‘African’ calibers. I say if you like the rifle don’t worry about the caliber unless it’s not useful for your hunting.

I’m not sure I truly get the ‘African’ caliber argument.

Looks great! The barrel looks like it came of a Rigby :D

@Glenn Slaven graciously offered this 100th anniversary 270 Lipsey’s run rifle up to me and I had to take him up on it. I am not a 270 fan boy but the rifle being limited to 270 rifles and with special serial numbers made me want it for my safe. Unfortunately I was in the gun store picking up the rifle from Glenn when a gentleman brought in a Sauer 200 also in 270 that he wanted to sell. Having never handled one previously I took the opportunity to put fingerprints on his rifle and left the store with two 270s. Now I’m not much of a gold tooth sorta person but I thought the bottom metal was tastefully done on the Ruger.

@sestoppelman pics of the Whitworth 7x57! We’re still waiting with baited/bad breath to see it. LOL

I bought mine for about $950 when they first came out, and sold it for $1600 a couple or three years later.
There is one on GB right for only $3500!!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
