Cervus elaphus, welcome to the AH forum! I’d love to read a report and see some photos of some of your adventures!
I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to visit your beautiful home country. I hope to return some day to fish the crystal clear streams.

Hi Ridgewalker, thanks for the welcome. All my hunting pics are buried somewhere in storage where the rest of our stuff is but when we eventually get to unpack it I'll dig out a couple. I do have a recent fish photo though. Double figure rainbow from the Ebor area of NSW Australia. Taken on a #12 yellow humpy, nearly gave me a hiding on my 4weight. cheers

Welcome to AH!
I was lucky to hunt the South Island next to the Rangitata River close to Rata Peaks in 2011. Came over for the RWC, and had a great time in New Zealand.

Great to have you on board.
C'mon the All Blacks!

Cheers,
Marius Goosen
You must have been after Tahr. I don't know if there's anything left of that colony and It's steep country where you were so you must have been a fit laddie. Not supporting 'Boks?. All Blacks had better pull finger, there's some vg teams out there. cheers

Yeah, hunted Tahr and got a decent bull of 12".

Nope, definitely not a Boks supporter. If I wanted to blame the ref every weekend, I could have supported England wit Eddie at the helm.....

Been supporting the All Blacks for 23 years now. Felt they missed a trick when they appointed Foster, and that it would be more of the same. All Blacks needed something fresh. Would have liked to see Robertson get a chance. Not sure what your view is on that.

AWESOME! Yellow humpy is an excellent dry fly! Almost unsinkable.

Best dry fly I know for rainbows. I tie all my own flies/nymphs. For browns I use that US favourite, the Adams which to me represents a plump terrestrial - a good searcher - and a hare's ear spider for a nymph. This is a pic of a #14 hare's ear with an 8lb brown on the other end. Rod is a 6wt Fenwick.

Razor's turn will come, but not sure he really wants that spot as he's still enjoying the Crusaders. lot of pressure on coaches at international level, look at SA. I was a bit puzzled at Foster's appointment, this year will tell. cheers

G'day from NSW.
This lot talked me into going to going to Africa, be careful.
I'm thinking I wouldn't mind doing NZ to just hunting pigs or goats whatever is easy on the budget.
Of late I've been thinking an Arapawa sheep could be ok. I never saw the reason to Hunt sheep but now I see it as a different kind of hunt and I don't take trophies so the experience would be good and not something we do in Aus'

Hi CBH over the border, no shortage of wild pigs or goats in NZ, the trick is getting a farm to shoot on otherwise it's a guide. Someone on this forum may know of a contact over there. There might be a kiwi hunting club online which might help. A good program to watch on tv is NITV Tuesday nights about 9:30pm, program is called "Hunting Aotearoa" and covers a lot of the country. They hunt pigs deer goats - all game - so it's a pretty interesting show and you get to learn a bit of the Maori language as well. cheers.

p.s. if you ever get the chance to fish the Tongariro river in the North Island give me a buzz for some helpful info as I've fished that river for steelhead rainbows since 1958. In the South Island a good bloke to talk to is Malcolm Bell at The Complete Angler, Christchurch. Malcolm is a superb fisherman, a good friend, a fishing mate, he took the photos that I posted.

I've watched a few episodes of Hunting Aetorora, I still can't pronounce it. I liked the episodes with Howie in it. Haven't seen it in a while I used to work away so tv kept me company.
I listened to the Moari language i found it funny listening to that they say piggy, piggy fluently in the conversation . Maybe they didn't have a word for the "new" introduced species . I guess white settlers came just after piggy, piggy was released.
I will look into it as my wife is happy to travel so she's happy for me to Hunt in the equation.
I'm over the border and closer to SA , just 50km from the SA border for my hometown. That means any international travel requires domestic travel. Flying to Sydney could cost more than flying to NZ from Sydney.

Enjoy AH forums there is a ton of experience and knowledge here. Some interesting reading and plenty to distract you and burn up so much time.

Greetings. Canterbury kiwi currently living in Queensland. Hunted both NZ islands, from the Kaimanawa to the Tararua and most of Canterbury/Otago back country. Red Deer, Fallow, Sambar, Chamois, pigs, goats, small game. Missing the trout fishing back in NZ but will remedy that this year Covid-19 permitting (local Canterbury streams and Tongariro). My avatar was taken at the Cliff pool Tongariro river with a good rainbow on. Enjoy reading and watching the African safaris, big bore rifles, ballistics. Ex member NZ Handloaders Club and Canterbury Flyfishing Club, Christchurch. So much good reading on this web site.
@ Cervus elaphus
Welcome to AH mate. We have all the game you hunted in NZ and great trout fishing in the New England area of NSW.
I think QLD has moe kiwis than Wellington.

Chris you could always drive to my place and stay a few days before and after your trip. It's only an hour by train to the airport from my place

Chris your 280AI would be great for that hunt. Bust as my kiwi neighbor would say " you will have to get a lot fetter to run up those hulls. Don't forget to have a feed of fish and chips, take the chully bun to put your food in and wear your jandals around camp to guv your feet a rest from boots."

Welcome. I was suppose to hunt South Island in July last year but rescheduled to this July. Probably getting canceled again. If not canceled we will be in Queenstown during skiing season.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
