New Heym 500NE Double

Thank you,

I'm looking forward to shooting both. The 500 is definitely heavier than the 450/400 - but not uncomfortable.

If the 416 shoots anything like the 375 - it will be a great rifle. Hopefully the 416 won't kick as hard as the 458 Lott.
If you don’t like the recoil of the .416, I will trade you for a pre-Martini Heym Express in .416 Rigby. The extra bulk helps with the recoil. I will even trade you straight up—-no money from your end. That is the kind of guy I am. :) :):)

Seriously, I have a .404 and .416 pre-Martini and really like them, but as you know, the Ralf makeover was awesome for the line!

That is a very nice pair of rifles!

Very generous of you sir, I will keep that in mind when I shoot it. It's got to be more friendly than my 458 Lott.

Hi Franco,

Nice rifles! I fine that the 416 has a lot less recoil than the 458 Lott as I have both. The 458 is more like the 500 NE.

@Franco If you need more ammo let me know. I no longer have a 500, but I’ve got a lot of factory 500NE ammo. What was your gun regulated for?

The subject of shotgun barrels came up on another thread. Chris has a set of 20 gauge barrels; they will not fit my 500 frame, but they would fit a frame like my 450/400.

The cost, 8K, plus time and money to ship a rifle to Germany, have the barrels fitted and returned - for what - another SxS shotgun? It would give the option of something for birds while in Africa, but it's more stuff to pack, more ammo to squeeze in, and I've yet to be in a camp without some kind of shotgun.

Made more sense to get the 416. I didn't say good sense - I said more sense.
The wood on the .500 is stunning and I agree that the .416 makes more sense and a superb backup rifle.

As others have asked, what's the regulation ammo for the .500?

Color me jealous . . . *sigh*

Chris didn't say; I told him I had 6 boxes of Hornady, a box of Barnes, and 4 or 5 boxes of Federal Woodleigh Hydo. He said to shoot the Hornady and see what it does.

I spoke with John at Safari Arms this morning, he said to shoot a few groups of each and send him pictures, he'll work up a load for the 500 like he did for the 450/400 and 458.

I've got 2 boxes of Hornady 416 ammo as well.

I'm interested in the 500 ammo, let me know what you've got and what you want for it, thanks.
