New Buffalo call your shot

Being a newbie to buff, I'd probably go for red, or just to the right of red with my 404J, probably 400 gr North Fork SS. But I'm eager for education on it if I'm wrong.

Went with "Red" but would probably have shot somewhere between "Red" and "White" but closer to "Red" then "White" if that makes sense.

I would wait for a better shot. Preferably broad side or move closer. For me, there is not much room for error on a frontal shot. Just my opinion.
I really like these "call your shot". Makes me look back on some bad ones that should not been taken.

Red is the perfect spot. The bullet is going to end just behind the opposite shoulder. That's if I'm seeing correctly.

Green is pretty close, I think the buff is quartering slightly. If he was straight on I would go red.

My Vote Red, or between Red/Green.
I have killed two buffalo with frontal shots, both one shot each* - but they were both facing perfectly straight. This guy is quartering a little bit. My thoughts on the frontal shot, beyond aiming for the vitals:
1st. Aim for the chest, not the shoulder. This should increase the probability that your bullet penetrates the the rib cage.
2nd. Imagine the trajectory of your bullet passing through the buffalo, try to make sure it passes through as much buffalo as possible.

*Don't take this as arrogance - My third buffalo was perfectly broadside at about 40 meters - I shot that one 9 times with a .470 NE

It’s a relatively large target.

You may walk a lot of miles for one good frontal shot. You don’t always get a bull standing broadside in the wide open. You would kick yourself for years for not being prepared to make this shot on this caliber of bull.


Frontals are very effective and quick kills.

I will say that the buffs I’ve shot frontals have reacted to the shot much more than the broadside ones. That said, my frontals have been with the 404J and the broadsides with the 375H&H. FWIW

Voted 'between red and green', but I *think* that closer to the red would be best, about the middle of that last bit of twig (white line) which touches the red dot. But it is surely hard to see perfectly clear what I'm looking at....

I agree with Flip. Between the red and green are the heart/lungs Largest area for kill shots.

Between red and green for me. 416RM scoped rifle for that one.

Agree that between red and green if I am taking this shot. Depending on circumstances I’m gonna try and be patient as possible and try to reposition for a more broadside presentation if at all possible. I would be taking the shot with either my 404Jeffery with 400 grain AFrames or my 458 Win with 450 grain AFrames. I’d few confident with either set up.
