wondering if anyone knows someone good and trustworthy? Have a 1977 tang safety Ruger M77 in 7x57mm that I would like to get a bedding job done on along with a new Winchester M70 in 375 H&H. I just acquired both of these rifles this month. I don't have the skill to do that level of work and don't trust myself either with 2 rifles I plan to actually take on a safari.

Not overly complicated or difficult tasks for a competent GS. I see you are in the Houston area. MG Arms is in NE Houston, not far from Carter Country on Treswigh. Or a bit of a drive, Hill Country Rifle is GS that offers accurizing packages.

Anyone who can change a tire or their vehicle's oil could certainly bed a couple of rifles. It is a simple matter. I bet there's at least twenty youtube instructional videos on the subject.

Not doubting the OP.'s skill level, or in anyway insulting them, but I’ve seen some complete cockups by people bedding their own rifles, when I worked at a gun shop for a bit, one customer didn’t use release agent and glued his receiver into the stock, banged it on a bench to get it out and broke a big chunk out of the timber, he demanded we replace the stock….and bed it for him. Another person brought a firearm (CZ550)to me with the trigger group mounting area full of bedding compound which I had to dig out and clean up, who didn’t think they needed to pay for my time.
Anyway, if the OP has skills and is confident with them, then he should attempt it

I suspect the cockups were more prevalent in the days before smart phones and YouTube. And forums like this one.

There are people who simply cannot manage changing a tire or their truck's oil. But more often than not they simply convince themselves they can't do it without attempting (e.g. my 35 yr-old daughter and son-in-law). I would go so far as to say anyone who can properly clean their rifle should have the faculties necessary to float the barrel and bed the action. The skill level needed is about the same.

I forgot all about MG Arms sadly. I used to live right by them and even worked at Carters Country as a kid still in high school. I will reach out to them.

Malcolm Ballistic Tool Custom Gunsmith, does some fantastic bedding. I personally have Tim and his team work on my rifles all the time, with great confidence!
